SID Nelson helped Newport County end an eight-game losing streak in League Two on Saturday.
Nelson played in the centre of Graham Westley’s side’s defence as the Welsh outfit drew 1-1 at home to Colchester.
County are still six points from safety at the bottom of the table.
Also in League Two at the weekend, Paris Cowan-Hall won a penalty that was scored by Joe Jacobson but Wycombe had to settle for a 1-1 draw at home to Yeovil that keeps them three points behind Portsmouth.
Pompey are two points off the automatic promotion spots. David Forde was in goal for Paul Cook’s side as a Conor Chaplin brace gave them a 2-1 win over Leyton Orient at Fratton Park.
Kyron Farrell made a late debut for Braintree Town and Kris Twardek started as The Iron defeated Sutton United 1-0 on Saturday to move four points clear of the relegation zone.
Lions centre-back Paul Rooney was an unused substitute in Torquay’s 2-1 loss at home to Woking. The Gulls are level on points with Braintree in the National League table.
Goalkeeper Harry Girling was on the bench for Welling United in their 2-1 FA Trophy second-round win at Bromley.
And in League One, Gregg Wylde was also an unused substitute as new Northampton boss Justin Edinburgh saw his side lose 2-1 at home to Scunthorpe.
