Torquay thank 'generous' Millwall for Rooney deal

MILLWALL defender Paul Rooney has joined Torquay United on loan.

Rooney, signed from Irish club Bohemians in the summer, joins the National League club on a 28-day deal.

Torquay player-manager Kevin Nicholson said: "He is a player who I came across when on a scouting mission a few weeks ago. I wasn't particularly looking at him on the day but he was impressive in defence for Millwall's U23s.

"It was a chance conversation with an agent that his name came up again and the possibility of him coming here took shape.

"Millwall have been very generous in the deal they have given us on him, and it's a great opportunity for him to come and test himself at a standard of football where the result is the most important factor against teams fighting for every point.

"I look forward to him showing us what he's about and, as always with any player on loan, I will endeavour to send him back to Millwall a better person and a better player."
