Injured Millwall trio close in on returns

LEE Gregory and Shaun Hutchinson should be back in training this week ahead of the second round of the FA Cup against Braintree next Sunday.

Gregory has missed the last two games with a back spasm problem and Hutchinson the last four with a hamstring injury.

Gregory is the more likely of the pair to return next weekend. Hutchinson wasn't risked for the U23s' league fixture with Coventry City on Monday.

Millwall’s training ground pitches were frozen on Tuesday morning, and Harris explained that makes reintregating players trickier.

“We’re hopeful, weather dependent,” Harris said. “Shaun has been improving but we decided it was best not to play him in the U23s in the end.

“He’s going to train this week, hopefully, and Lee is getting healthier every day, his back is freeing up a lot. We’re hopeful he’ll be on the training pitch this week and be in contention for the weekend.

“With Shaun we’ll have to see over the course of the next seven days.

“We have to be careful with players coming back from injury or carrying niggles. We have to be professional but it does mess up the plans slightly because it’s not ideal to take someone who’s had a back spasm, someone who’s had a hamstring problem onto Astroturf or a hard court or on the ice.

“It might push our plans back a couple of days but that’s part of the game, we have to think on our feet and adjust accordingly.”

Sid Nelson, meanwhile, has recovered from a thigh strain and featured in the U23s’ 2-1 win over Coventry.

Harris said: “Sid played 60 minutes yesterday and I was pleased with him. He looked good physically and he played well. Ideally you always want a player to play another 90 minutes before putting them back into the first team, but Sid is a good warrior and competitor and I’d have no problems putting him in this weekend.”
