EFL Cup preview: Millwall vs. Nottingham Forest

MILLWALL look set to be without Lee Gregory for Tuesday night’s League Cup second-round clash with Nottingham Forest at The Den.

Gregory went off with a hip flexor complaint in the 2-1 win over Sheffield United on Saturday. Fred Onyedinma, who started and scored in the 4-0 win over Barnet in the last round, could partner Steve Morison up front.

Shaun Hutchinson is expected to be sidelined for a month.

Shaun Cummings is also still unavailable but boss Neil Harris has the option of resting Mahlon Romeo and playing Sid Nelson at right-back.

Harris confirmed he would make changes to the side that beat the Blades.

“I’m looking forward to Tuesday,” he said. “The games are coming a bit thick and fast at the moment and we’ll make changes to the team because (the competition) is not a priority to us.

“Winning the game and giving the players the opportunity to play and impress me is a priority. Yes of course we want to be competitive and win the game but we want to carry (the Sheffield United) result into Chesterfield away next week.”

Nottingham Forest could also give some of their younger players a chance.

Boss Philippe Montanier told the club’s official website: “(Tuesday) night could be a good opportunity for some of our younger players to show what they can do. Players like Matty Cash are a good example of what you can do as a young player if you are focused.

“Millwall are a dangerous team who had a good win over Sheffield United at the weekend and we know The Den is a difficult place to play. I watched them in the League One play-off final last season and they're a good side.

“The cup remains an important competition for us and we need to build on the good win at Doncaster in the last round. I'm a dreamer, I always want to win every competition but we have to concentrate on Millwall first.”

Millwall and Forest last met in the Championship in January 2015 when Ricardo Fuller’s goal gave the Lions a 1-0 win at The City Ground. The last meeting between the sides at The Den was earlier that season and finished scoreless.
