NEIL Harris has left his big hitters out of the trip to face National League South side Welling at Park View Road on Monday evening.
Lions boss Harris has included summer signing from Plymouth, Gregg Wylde, in the squad as the winger builds up his match sharpness, but none of the other young players included are in contention to start against Oldham Athletic this Saturday.
The team Harris picked for last weekend's 1-1 draw with Brentford in the first team’s last pre-season friendly is likely to be the one that starts against the Latics at The Den, with the possible exception of Shaun Hutchinson who was having a scan on Monday on the tight hamstring that forced him off against the Bees.
Ben Thompson also came off just after half-time after taking a kick to the calf and could be a doubt to face Steve Robinson’s side.
Wylde was one of a trio of new recruits given a first taste of action at The Den last Saturday, and Harris was pleased with their contributions.
He said: “I was impressed with all three. Hutch didn’t get to show what he’s really capable of but it’s important for players to get used to their new surroundings.
“We train here on Tuesday on the open day and it’ll be good for them to be part of it.
“I though David Worrall was excellent with and without the ball. He showed the fans his tenacity, aggression and end product. I said to him afterwards all that was missing was the penalty area, but that’ll come.”
Millwall squad to face Welling: King, Donovan, Sandford, Brown, McNamara, Chesmain, Nelson, Rooney, Wylde (above), Farrell, Pavey, Philpot, Twardek, L White.
Kick-off is at 7.45pm.
