Millwall boss to make changes for Dartford friendly

MILLWALL manager Neil Harris is set to ring the changes for Tuesday night’s pre-season friendly away to Dartford.

The Lions boss made 11 substitutions after an hour in the win at Bromley on Saturday, and looks set to start most ofplayers who came on for the final 30 minutes to keep his side fresh.

After a difficult game at the weekend coupled with some intense training sessions during the week, Harris is taking all factors into consideration before selecting his squads for the pre-season fixtures.

“Friday and Saturday took a lot out of the players” Harris said. “They were hard sessions.

“Monday was tough and tonight will be, too, but that's the idea of pre-season. There won't be many players starting tonight that started on Saturday, so there will be some freshness in the team.

“We plan pre-season with regards to who plays what by ear a little bit. You have to take niggles and knocks into account, with some players recovering better than others.

"Then there's lack of sleep, illnesses, stuff like that that we have to look at.

“We also look at partnerships: Centre-half partnerships, centre-forward ones, left-back and left-midfield, things like that.

“At the moment, we're just looking at putting balanced teams out and giving everyone a chance to impress ahead of the new season."

Harris explained he will not play an experienced side and then later change to a youthful one, insisting he will keep it a mix of both as he did against Bromley last Saturday.

The Lions boss said: “Putting out a really experienced team and then putting out a young team isn't an idea for me.

“I like to see the youngsters playing with the more senior players, because over the course of a full season the youngsters will play a part.”
