MILLWALL'S two visits to Roots Hall last season brought six goals, two clean sheets and some festive cheer to all Lions fans.

Neil Harris' side succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at The Den in mid-September, despite dominating the game, as the home hoodoo rumbled on, but in Essex in December, they roared on more than one occasion.

The first meeting was in the Southern Section semi-final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy – a sublime Steve Morison volley and a second-half strike from Shaun Williams eased the Lions to a 2-0 win.

Three weeks later, December 28 saw the club's highest league win of the campaign, as Joe Martin, Shaun Cummings, Fred Onyedinma and Aiden O'Brien all helped themselves to late Christmas presents in a 4-0 demolition of the promotion-chasing Shrimpers.

This season will see added spice in the games between the two clubs, courtesy of David Worrall's move across the water to south London.

In an exodus of key players from Roots Hall, manager Phil Brown has also watched star goalkeeper Daniel Bentley and dynamic midfielder Jack Payne move to Brentford and Huddersfield Town respectively.

In contrast, the Essex outfit have bought Jason Demetriou from Walsall, as well as wing wizard Jermaine McGlashan from Gillingham.

Rumours are also rife regarding Brown bringing the notorious Nile Ranger to Roots Hall from the forthcoming campaign.

Along with Gillingham, Charlton and AFC Wimbledon, Southend will provide two local tests for the Lions in 2016-17.
