YOU wouldn't usually put Port Vale and Jose Mourinho in the same sentence, would you?

However, due to the club's new managerial appointment, the link between the two may be closer than ever.

Bruno Riberio, a Portuguese national, hails from Setubal – the same town as the Manchester United boss.

Being the best of friends, Riberio has suggested that he may look to bring some young Red Devils to Vale Park – but not yet.

At 40/1, along with Oldham Athletic, Port Vale are the rank outsiders for the League One title and favourites for relegation.

They have recently brought in 28-year-old centre-half Kjell Knops from MVV Maastricht on a two-year contract, but are looking to fill the void left by numerous players leaving Burslem for pastures new.

Strike partnership Louis Dodds and Ajay Leitch-Smith opted to turn down deals and sign for Shrewsbury Town, whilst Michael O'Connor has moved to Notts County.

The club have also lost Richard Duffy to Eastleigh and Byron Moore to Bristol Rovers, leaving Riberio with a depleted squad.

Last season, the Lions completed a league double over Port Vale.

At Vale Park in mid-September, Mark Beevers and a Lee Gregory penalty handed Millwall a 2-0 victory, whilst at The Den in January, Gregory's sublime header helped Neil Harris' side on their way to a 3-1 win.
