SHANE Ferguson was an unused substitute for the second game running as Northern Ireland slipped to a 1-0 defeat against Germany on Tuesday afternoon.
Despite having 79% possession and 26 attempts on goal, the world champions could only score the only goal of the game on 29 minutes, courtesy of Mario Gomez.
As the stats suggested, however, it was a comfortable afternoon for the Germans in a game where the Irish rarely threatened.
However, despite finishing the group stage in third place with just three points, Ferguson will see his tournament extended.
The introduction of four best-third-placed teams qualifying for the Last 16 has benefitted Northern Ireland; Turkey's 2-0 win over Czech Republic on Tuesday night assured their place in the next round.
Their opponents in the Last 16, however, will not be known until the conclusion of the group stages on Wednesday night.
