MILLWALL are "proud" that Shane Ferguson will be involved in the European Championship in France this summer, says chief executive Andy Ambler.
The 24-year-old will represent Northern Ireland at Euro 2016 and will come up against Poland, Ukraine and Germany in Group C of the tournament, starting on June 10.
And Ambler hopes the midfielder continues to play a key role in his countries efforts to progress further into the tournament.
"We are very proud [of Ferguson]," Ambler said. "David Forde missed out [with the Republic of Ireland] which is disappointing, he will be disappointed so we nearly had two players at Euro 2016.
"Shane was in the Northern Ireland squad when we had him on loan. When we signed him permanently we knew he was a big part of that squad."
Ferguson was a key member of Michael O'Neill's squad that finished first in their qualifying group.
Ambler said: “That success he has had with Northern Ireland is rubbing off on him, he is a really hard working young man.
"I'm really pleased he is out there and let’s hope they do well.
"Hopefully Shane gets the opportunity to be part of that, by starting games or that he plays a big part in a successful tournament for them."
