MILLWALL midfielder Chris Taylor has praised the performances of his team-mates in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Bury at Gigg Lane.
The Blackburn loanee was involved in all three goals, scoring two and assisting another for Steve Morison, as the Lions moved up to third in League One to still be in with an outside chance of achieving automatic promotion.
And by his own admission, 29-year-old Taylor felt Saturday’s performance was much improved from the dour 1-0 win over Fleetwood last Tuesday and a sign of the mood in the squad.
“If I'm not pleased with that, I might as well hang my boots up!” Taylor joked.
“I think my all-round play was good and the whole team played really well. People talk about who scores every week, but there were some good performances.
“I was disappointed with myself against Fleetwood. I don't think I played anywhere near what I can do. I think a lot of players made a lot of mistakes then. But it shows the spirit that the gaffer has here. When we don't play so well we manage to grind out a result and that’s the sign of a very good team that is hopefully heading in the right direction.
“I’m obviously delighted, we needed the three points. Teams are always putting pressure on other teams and now we have a little bit of breathing space and we still have a small sniff of getting second."
Taylor scored his second goal for the club since his loan move from Blackburn when his fourth-minute corner went directly in, before his clever back-heel set up Morison who doubled the lead. Morison then turned provider with a ball across the box that Taylor drove home to make it 3-1 in the 83rd minute.
And he is confident that if he continues delivering the same quality, Millwall have the firepower to add to the 68 league goals they have scored this season. Only Wigan and Gillingham have scored more.
“If I keep getting the ball in the area we will score goals," Taylor said.
“Byron Webster had a few chances from corners, he’s a threat. Mark Beevers is a threat, Steve Morison too. If I can just keep getting it in the area that’s all I'm looking to do.
“I put in a good performance but you can look through the whole team and there were a number of good performances. We have two wins on the bounce now, and I thought we were unlucky at Coventry.”
