MILLWALL loan duo Lee Martin and John Marquis combined to send Northampton Town 13 points clear of closest rivals Oxford United in League Two on Friday night.
The Cobblers are now also 17 points ahead of fourth-placed Plymouth after Marquis finished past Newport's Joe Day from Martin's assist.
The only goal of the game was Marquis' fourth in seven games for Northampton.
In the National League Tom King kept his fifth successive clean sheet as Braintree moved up to fourth with a 1-0 win over Bromley. The Millwall influence was key to winning all three points as Braintree's winner came when Simeon Akinola finished Jack Powell's corner to the net.
Also in the same division on Friday night Alfie Pavey couldn't help Aldershot break the deadlock as they drew 0-0 at Forest Green.
Meanwhile, Shane Ferguson, Jimmy Abdou and David Forde were involved in international action over the weekend.
Ferguson was an 89th –minute substitute as Northern Ireland drew 1-1 in their friendly with Wales. Craig Cathcart gave Northern Ireland the lead after an hour before Simon Church equalised a minute from time.
Abdou was part of a Comoro Islands team that won a competitive international for the first time in their history when a Ben Mohamed goal was enough for a 1-0 victory against Botswana. However, Botswana won the reverse fixture in the their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying group 2-1 on Sunday.
Forde was on the bench for the Republic of Ireland as Ciaran Clark's goal gave Martin O'Neill's side a 1-0 Euro 2016 warm-up win over Switzerland in Dublin on Friday night.
