ALFIE Pavey could leave Millwall on loan during the January transfer window.

Pavey, who made his debut for the Lions against Wolves last May, has made six appearances off the bench this season but has yet to start a senior game for the club since joining from Maidstone United in 2013.

The 20-year-old has been in superb form this season for Justin Skinner’s Elite Development Squad, who are in the quarter-finals of the Premier League Cup and sit in second place in U21 Professional Development League 2.

Millwall turned down requests from clubs wanting to take the centre-forward on loan during the last window, but there has been renewed interest from a number of National League sides.

Jamie Philpot, 19, has been in the last two first-team squads after his recovery from an injury he picked up playing for the U21s earlier in the season, and he edged Pavey out of the matchday 18 at Barnsley last Saturday.

Philpot is still a few weeks away from being fit enough for a first-team start, but is a player Harris rates highly.

The Millwall manager also hopes to sign an attacker this month and that could mean a chance for Pavey to get more regular first-team football in the short term elsewhere.

“Alfie’s got a long way to go before breaking into the first-team fold,” Harris said. “We will look to get some minutes into him either back in U21s football or maybe out on loan.

“I’ve had a lot of calls about Alfie Pavey. There might be an opportunity to do something if and when Jamie’s fully fit or if we can bring somebody in.

“We’ve had a lot of calls from National League clubs to take Alfie because of his goalscoring feats for the U21s and his involvement with the first team.

“As ever it’s finding the right pathway for our young players – not exposing them to the first team too soon, but also giving them a learning curve to make sure when they do come into the first team they’re battle-hardened and ready for the challenge.”

Pavey told NewsAtDen in December that he would be open to a loan move, having enjoyed his time at Barnet when he appeared three times for them in the Conference Premier at the beginning of 2014-15.
