MILLWALL manager Neil Harris will select his team for Southend based on how his players recover after Saturday’s defeat to Walsall.

The Lions boss made five changes in the Boxing Day fixture from the Gillingham game a week before, with only one enforced change – David Forde coming in for Jordan Archer after the keeper was sent off.

And Harris says he will approach the game like any other, and has said he hasn't picked teams with the congestive festive fixture schedule in mind.

Speaking to the assembled press after Saturday’s match, Harris said: “We approach the Southend game having had rest, it’s important in the modern game the guys are eating the right foods and drinking the nutritional drinks – sleep is key.

“We come in tomorrow (Sunday), the lads that played will have a recovery session. The ones who didn't have a training session to prepare, and then we assess on Monday morning before the game.”

With the games coming thick and fast, Harris has said he will pick the team based on how his players recover after playing so many games in such a short period of time.

“We pick a team and talk to the players about a game plan and the opposition,” Harris said.

“It’s about the players and how they recover, that’s key.

“Some recover better than others after games so, we have to monitor that, and obviously, you have other guys who haven't played that'll be chomping at the bit to play.

“I picked Saturday’s team with a view to winning that game on what I thought as key and how I thought people had performances in recent weeks and on the training pitch.”
