Report: Bromley 0-2 Millwall XI

KENNY Jackett watched from the stands as a Millwall XI beat Conference South side Bromley 2-0 at Hayes Lane.

First-team trio Alan Dunne, John Marquis and Shaun Batt were named in a predominantly youthful Lions side that was managed by the club's Head of Youth Scott Fitzgerald.

And it was two of the senior professionals in the team who combined for the game's opening goal in the 31st minute as Batt raced clear down the left-hand side before cutting the ball back to Marquis for a simple tap-in.

Marquis then had a second goal chalked off for offside towards the end of an uneventful first half.

With the second half came little change as both sides struggled to settle into any kind of rhythm. 18-year-old Millwall midfielder Jack Sammoutis was doing his best to sit deep and dictate possession, but the long-ball tactics on display limited his impact on proceedings.

The home side nearly grabbed an equaliser midway through the second period but substitute Nic McDonnel saw his shot hit the post before the loose ball was scrambled to safety in the 72nd minute.

And it took a superb save from Lions keeper Luke Bartlett at the death to deny McDonnell again and preserve his side's slender advantage.

But Marquis put the result beyond doubt when he added a second from the penalty spot, cheekily chipping the ball down the middle after Conor Wilkinson was tripped in the area.

Bromley: Welch, Ming, Patterson, Jones, Swaibu, Harwood, Joseph-Dubois, Waldren, Pacquette, Chaaban, Malcolm.

Millwall: Bartlett, Dunne, Hunter, Sammoutis, Goodman, De Havilland, O'Brien, Shitta, Marquis, Wilkinson, Batt.
