Yeovil Town re-sign Millwall centre back Webster on loan

BYRON Webster has rejoined former club Yeovil Town on loan.
Webster has not played for Millwall in over a month and is now back with the Glovers, the club he left to sign for the Lions last summer.
Colchester United were also keen on the 27-year-old but Yeovil have landed him until the end of the summer.
Millwall boss Ian Holloway was happy to allow Webster to go out on loan to play some games.
I cannot understand this? why did we bother signing him in the first place. You cannot expect a player to improve unless he is given game time! Ollie you seriously do not have a clue what you are doing!!
From what I've seen of Webster he's well out of his depth in this league! Not so sure we should be loaning anyone out right now with our injury issues...
@TheBermondseyBomber: It looks like we are also out of our depth in this league so we will need to keep these players for next season because we will not be able to buy any more and when the loans go back and all the contracts end we will be heavily depleated.
@TheBermondseyBomber: Have to agree with you, looks way out of his depth and doesnt read the game very well. Has looked a liability every time he's played.
Ollie will you please go on loan to Zanzibar or somewhere until you contract is up and get a decent manager like Mark Warburton who knows what he is doing in instead!!
So - we continue to play a poor right back at CH - a position where he is even worse, and put out on loan a CH - who MAY be out of his depth - but he is certainly no worse than Dunne - and Cummings (our current RB) is now out for at least a month.
Nearly as much logic to this game of musical chairs as Chaplow - who cannot get in our sided potentially going to serious Premiership contenders Ipswich.
All very strange. This completely underpins my suspicions that there is a lot more to this football management lark than at first meets the eye - NOT
@crow191049: all very odd.
Something's really up at our club. It seems to me his lost the players. Chaplow who's looked s*** for us getting tapped up by playoff hopefuls. Fred and marquis banging them in for fun all but in a lower div. Webster not given a proper run in the team then jogged back to where he come from shittus tweets regarding daggers in backs. Ollys head up Martinez a*** but only played a handful of games. Maggi playing well then dropped like a stone.
Pretty much every new player getting injured.. And then pennant not getting close enough to take the chance!
Goes on and on. The only ones doing any well are the ones that f*** off away from the poison
Webster was Yeovils best player last season so he is good enough for this division at least....not had more than 2 games running or the same partner this season ....not had a chance with Coco the Clown ...does Ambler or Berylson have a clue how bad Holloway is......the new phrase is TOXIC thats what Ollie is
Alongside Beevers he looked good, the game at Charlton he and Beevers looked the business and they should have a had a run together. At that time Ollie had a hard on for Shittu and kept dropping players to fit him in, that was an error in my opinion. Webster was too often partnered alongside a out-of-form Dunne/Shittu combination and never stood a chance of shining. Put him alongside Hooiveld and I guarantee we would see a much better player.
@glyngo:
Totally agree, this bloke just needs games and his confidence back and he would be perfect alongside Hooiveld, but i believe holloway has messed up most of our players this season with his chopping and changing and formation changes.
@glyngo: totally right mate
I have 2 major problems so please here me out guys & gals, No1, where is our so called fan on the board, I know he was ill & we wish him well, but surely he was voted on to be our voice at agm's etc, he can put our point forward about the lack of a decent goal scorer surely. No2, it's been reported that Birmingham sheff wed amoungst other championship clubs are after john marquis, now I know he's had many chances at millwall & failed, but is it just the way we treat him or the set up we have, cos my bro in law is a pikey fan & he said he's by far their best player, his running off the ball etc are way above the rest of the team, I say before we sell him & he comes back too haunt us give him another run of 4 or 5 games in the 1st team just to see if he has reached full fitness & sharpness, I feel if we sell him he will do better with a better manager etc, he's a better quicker player than that giant we have up front at the moment.
@mfcjon: well said Jon ...I like Gregory but Marquis is just as good and hes Millwall through and through.....Ollie is killing our club
@SE17 Lion: Ollie is killing our Club Fullstop he needs to go what we have where stuck with player wise theres no way now well sign a striker so Ollie P.OFF
@mfcjon: I don't think he ever has been really given a proper run in the team. I would say he could get as many goals as Gregory has at the moment if he was given a proper run. At Norwich away he was our best player and looked sharp and determined. To then loan him out after that with the strikeforce we have was odd to say the least
@mfcjon: I fully agree with you, it shows the calibre of the player if other Championship sides are competing for his signature. He is young, hungry and I feel is a mistake to let him go, Give him a 2 year deal and if he is not quite there, loan him out again, this is how clubs develop players, look at what Tottenham achieved with Kane. I feel that Ollie has seriously lost the plot and is making rash and stupid decisions and is probably basing his judgement on how he gets on personally with players, how else would you explain the Hoff saga?
@mfcjon: He is recovering from major sugury. You can always arrange a meeting with Ambler yourself and tell him to his face what you think
@mfcjon: Agree fully. Marquis hasn't been nurtured properly. Jackett put him into a struggling team as a young kid, then dropped him almost straight away, but refused to loan him out for development. Lomas actually had the right idea and sent him loan to get experience in League 2, which went well if accounts from Cheltenham and Northampton fans are to be believed. This season, he has scored goals a league up and looks to be gaining confidence. It would be typical of Millwall to go three seasons without a proper goalscorer and then let one go free from our own academy.
@stanley: Absolutely right, KJ would drop him after 1-2 games, and the only time it looked like he would get a run he was injured for the rest of the season. I have said all along, we have not seen what he is capable of yet and it may now be too late, if I was him I wouldn't come back after the way he has been told he is surplus to requirements.
@mfcjon: I have allways rated John Marquise and looked at the goals that he had scored for us , he has a good scense of awareness in the 6 yard box a goal poacher , a good work rate a gives as good as he takes from center halfs not the greatess of first touches but certainley improved over his loans to verious clubs his recent form at Gillingham has been that of a player on top of his game how nice to see the quality of his finishing . HE has come through our youth system and as a few of us agree never been given a run . Allot of our fans have slagged him off , look when we had Harry Kane could this loan be the making of John Marquise and should another club benefit or do we Offer him a new contract
Can't see the point in this. Like everyone says he has hardly had a decent run in the side has he?
We want wharburton the way he has transformed brentford is unbelievable, the football they play is great too watch which pains me to say baring in mind we are bigger club.
@mfcjon: Not that straight forward..... Warburton has been involved with Brentford for a long time (4/5 years) at different levels within the club - he understands that club inside out, transferring that to Millwall might not have the same results!
@mfcjon: Bermondsey Bomber is spot on. Everyone went on about how great Rosler was before Warburton, but he failed at Wigan. Credit for Brentford's rise should go to the owner, Matthew Benham, as much as to the managers. He doesn't just sign the cheques, but sets strategies from the top and hires the right people. Whatever people think him of letting Warburton go, his money and the structure he helped to put in place are as much to do with Brentford's success as Warburton. And structure behind the scenes is precisely what we don't have at Millwall.
As for Webster, a move would be best for all concerned. Not convinced that he's up to Championship standard. Partly Holloway's fault - the player's mind must have been shot after the Reading debacle. He looked good away at Charlton, but then was all over the place at the next game away to Bournemouth. He's no better than Dunne and, with Sid Nelson waiting to get back into the team, Webster won't get a look in.
Webster wasn't given a run in the side with a player like hoov, I agree with Gylngo about him becoming a better player, after all we are as stated by many playing a RB at CB, I cannot believe what is happening at wall this season, we've become a f****** joke, hardly any shoots on target in our last few games but we can loan out strikers that seem to bang in the goals elsewhere, Iam sorry but the manager has to take the blame, for not getting the best out of his players, his signings are desperate, his tatic's are all over the shop, and his rants are just a cover up for his inept management skills, we need a complete change of direction, I just hope we get it sorted before its to late. Mon u wall!!!!!
Fully agree, I think that we need to finally voice our anger in a constructive manner and maybe get some banners made to protest...Mind you Ambler will probably not even turn his head and acknowledge that there are fans in the stand. We have never really made noise about a manager with our current owners to force them out! We are all p***** off and all angry, because after 3 seasons of soundbites and no actual bite on the pitch we cannot endour any more!!
Banners 🙂 . we get more like Palace every day. Webster has been a disaster. He was the sort of player we should be looking to sign, but it didn't work out. Banners FFS
Like bullying our own fans and Calling a Millwall fans wife a fat c***? People in glass houses and all that.
@Eightieswall: Would you like to explain that in a bit more detail
@bermondsey male choir: You know what i am on about.Like i said people in glass houses.
@Eightieswall: Havent a clue what you are on about. Instead of posting snidey little digs, why not say exactly what you are on about. Unless you are talking about the s******* girlfriend of the grass/nonce last season. In which case, you right she was fat s*******, do you not agree.
I went to reading away this season and Webster was taken off after 25min cos he was playing so bad we lost the game in the end 3-2 but it must've been the best game been 2 all season we played with passion and as if we had a heart
Another player Hollyoaks lured to the club,
messed him about, played him infrequently and
destroyed his confidence. No doubt he will be loaned out
and he suddenly springs into action.
Feel sorry for the lad, you could see he wanted to give his all and
do well for this club.
he is lost and clueless.
@lowdown: Holloway played him, and he cost us games. Hardly been messed about, more that he wasent up to it. Would you rather keep playing him and being even worse off than we are
@bermondsey male choir: Every time he played he was partnered with Shittu or Dunne in bad form, the bloke never stood a chance. It was only when he and Beevers got a short run together that we saw him looking like a decent player. There is no debate on this, Byron Webster is a good CB at championship level when managed correctly.
@glyngo: When did he look decent ? You cant blame every other centre half at the club . Are you honestly saying his display at Reading was down to who partnered him. Even in reserve games he has been poor, I suppose that was Sids fault
@bermondsey male choir: you have just answer your own question why keep people who cost us game, so why are we hanging on to Ollie for he has cost us dearly
@harrythelion: That's your opinion. Personally I doubt anyone could do that much better with the finances we have. Virtually every team in this division have a single player who is worth more than our whole squad put together. We are fighting against teams who are much bigger, better supported and have an awful lot more money
For me Webster could still be very effective for us. He is pretty tall and and looks quite strong which is exactly what a CB in the championship should be, he looks to play out from the back however the clowns tactics have made that look almost impossible. I feel that partnered with Hooiveld he would learn from him how to organise positioning etc which will make him a much better player. His physical attributes are all in place and he seems composed so all he needs is a solid run in the team alongside Hooiveld to get his confidence up and develop him as a player as I feel he is still up to it at this level.
He also came on as a late sub against Bradford and stayed to applaud the away fans when everyone else dissapeared so that tells me that his heart is still with the club and also that he has some bottle to face the fans after such a poor display he just needs time and patience.
@MFC 96:
Agreed. Him and Beevers away at the Train Spotters was one of
our best defensive displays of the season - rock solid.
Then, of course, what happened next game?
Tinkerman set about his business.
@lowdown: Right there, check this out for CB pairings:
8th Nov Brentford: Shittu, Beevers,
22nd Nov Charlton: Beevers, Webster,
29th Nov Bournemouth: Webster, Beevers (Fuller, 46mins),
6th Dec Boro: Webster (Shittu, 46mins), Dunne
12th Dec Brighton: Shittu, Beevers,
What you see above is the so called 'run in the team' Webster was given and the partners he had to play with. Yes, the Bournemouth game was poor, but the whole team were rubbish that day.
@glyngo: In that list you posted, the Charlton game was the only one where he looked decent. We started with the same line-up in the next game away at Bournemouth, and Webster got pulled apart by Kermorgant and Pitman's movement in the first half. He (and Beevers, it must be said) just couldn't cope, and we were lucky to get away with being only 2 down at HT. Then, next game, at home to Boro, we conceded 4 in the 1st half with Webster in from the start. The defence in that half was so bad that he had to be dropped for Brighton.
Of the three games mentioned above (plus Reading away), he has been given the runaround in all but one, and that one was against a weak Charlton attack.
I get the point about him not being given a run of matches, and there's a case to say that Holloway's tinkering has damaged his chances. But in the games he has played, I don't think he's proved himself to be better than Dunne or Nelson, who are his competitors for the right-sided slot. Maybe it could have worked out, maybe not. The situation at the moment means that Webster is unlikely to play, so it makes sense for club and player if he goes out on loan.
To be fair not many have had a good run of games in this team. The way Ollie chops and changes the side from week to week no wonder we're all over the place.
I think given a fair chance of games at the back with hooiveld , Webster could be a good player , not really been given a fair crack of the whip
Obviously Holloway has decided that the other centre halves we have are better than Webster. That's what he gets paid for I suppose but I reckon given a fair chance, he'd be more of an asset than Dunne in that position. Looks like Shittu and Webster are out. It might be down to personalities, trouble-making or not being good enough. Who knows?
What IH is effectively trying to tell Webster is that if he was one of the players out of contract this Summer he wouldn't be offered a new I BET DUNNE GETS ONE THOUGH!!! I also suspect that Beevers won't be offered a new contract. Hooveld is only here on loan. Shittu is probably out as well so that will leave us seriously short of centre backs..
@denslions: Don't forget we've always got the possibility that Hoyte can be converted to a centre half...
@NICKOLA:
knowing holloway he will pick him as a centre forward !!!!
@rowanonthewing7: I wouldn't mind that. I think he'd be better than Hoff that's for sure.
Here's my ex/current managers team for Saturday for what it's worth-
Banks
Armfield McCarthy Bruce Pearce
Graham Clough Holloway Di Canio
Hughes Shearer
Looked like a decent buy at first but very hard to judge a player on a limited amount of games you need a run of games to show your worth to the team, I thought he was a little lightweight in the tackling department for a player of his size .
Im not sure this is good business for us im really starting to question Ollys man management skills I know all the players speak highly of him but they are never going to say he is bloody clueless are they
From the limited viewing I've had, Webster has been poor. But as others have stated he's probably not had a fair crack of the whip. From his perspective, why would you stay and work with/for a manager who has basically messed you around from day one?

I haven't seen a thing from Webster that make me put him in front of Hooveld, Nelson, Beevers, Shittu or Dunne. Some have very strange memories of his performances for us.
@bermondsey male choir: we signed him in the summer .thinking he would partner beevers...how many starts has he had to get used to playing to the potential he has got..its very few
so to get used to playing in a back four he ships him out to someone else's back line..
How is that helping us
@Jim28: It gets him off the wage bill. He has been dire this season, cant think of any player who has been worse. All of a sudden people on here think he is the new Maldini. If Holloway did play Webster people on here would go into meltdown because he would of dropped Dunne or Hooveld
He's had a limited run of games granted. However he cannot say he's been played in an unfamiliar role like a large number of our players.
Every time I've seen him play he has made mistakes and cost us goals. Think it was borough he managed to gift them two?
From his time at Yeovil I thought he would at the very least pose a goal threat but frankly he seems a liability.
As others have said perhaps if he was partnered with hoov he would settle down and be more composed and cut out the mistakes. Every other player has looked better playing alongside him so I would at least like Ollie give a chance before shipping him out.
If he still looked pony with hoov that would surely tell us he's not cut out to play for us. All things considered even though Dunne is not favoured by many fans on here we have conceded far less goals of late so tinkering yet again with the defence seems unwise at this point of the season. Ollie would certainly get s*** if he does risk playing him and Webster f**** up again.
Chaplow? Going to Ipswich? What a bloody shambles! On performances alone, he should have been thrown out months ago! Angry of Sussex!
On a positive note. I think we will beat Fulham! COYL
I was really pleased when we signed Webster, thought he had all the makings of a decent centre half but let's be honest he has been truly shocking. I can't remember a worse central defender putting on a wall shirt.
The reason he's not had a decent run on the team is because whenever he's played he's cost us goals and been rightly dropped for the next game.
Get rid and free up some money for a striker.

@jc23: Spot on. I think people are using Webster just to have another dig at Holloway
am I the only one that gets what holly the woolly is doing The plan is to get every league player at some point and convince the chairman his now found his first eleven .now Mr chairman we need to pay these six thousand players off,

Was a very good player before he came to Millwall and scored quite a few for Yeovil in the championship. Unlike others he is not a wage thief and not injury prone. Never given a proper chance and will sign for another championship team next season while we are propping up L1
I honestly don't know what to make of some of the people posting on here, whether they are actually on a wind up or just completely clueless?!?!
Apart from the Charlton (which their one striker up top on his own wasn't fully fit) Webster has been diabolical every time I've seen him. He constantly makes mistake/falls over and whats worse is in situations where all he needs to do is kick the ball out of play to relieve some pressure, it ends up at the feet of the opposition bearing down on goal (and this has happened countless times all season)
Holloway has faced facts that he's got this one wrong, he hasn't proved to be the CB he thought he was and has let him go and get game time elsewhere. If we go down, I wouldn't be surprised to see him back but if we stay up, he won't be seen again.
People are saying he ain't had enough game time you only have to look at the impact Hoover has had to see that you don't need game time if your good enough. Webster was only brought in coz IH thought beevers was off to Rotherham.
Normally when a side gets relegated like Yeovil did , other clubs poach their best players.
We signed Upson and Webster , neither of whom have.. A.... been given much of a chance
and ...B...have not done a lot when they have.
Typical us really
