Pennant pulls out of Millwall training after cancelling hotel

JERMAINE Pennant has seemingly pulled out of a deal to join Millwall.

The winger was due to link up with the Lions this morning after agreeing to spend the week training with Ian Holloway's squad.

It had been agreed in principle that Pennant would sign a contract until the end of the season providing his fitness was up to scratch.

Millwall had booked a hotel for the 32-year-old but he is understood to have cancelled the booking and did not show up on Tuesday as expected.

Pennant is believed to be training with Wigan instead.

      I hate to repeat myself but I have to. Ollie has to go. This is a manager that has supposedly 19yrs experience as a manager who cannot convince anyone to come to us. Even ankle tag w**kers like Pennant can't be persuaded to join us. What is going on at this great club?

      @BUSHWACKER14: it's gotta be done BUSHWACKER, money talks...
      Trouble is, we are totally in the dark about what our situatuon REALLY is.. It seems like MFC are trying extremely hard to avoid splashing the cash, which is understandable, but is there more to it as far as FFP is concerned? Because we know JB has the cash, but it seems more and more like it just isn't an option to use it..
      I very much hope this isn't the case and we sign someone pronto..
      Anyone more informed than myself got anything to say on this? - (I don't know all the ins and outs..)

      Ultimately, we could all be wasting our energy on here hoping that a striker's gonna come in and save us - if all the above 'blockers' on future deals leaves us with f##k all.. If that's the case, we're better off using our energy to back the players we have...

    Someone tell Ollie that's its a striker we desperately need not another has-been midfielder.

    He has got to go to JB cap-in-hand and get a loan striker from a top club. Pay the odds or more, I am certain there are good young strikers from top clubs in the premier that given the money will love to play a few games here.

    If we stay the same we are down and that means less money, its so f*****g obvious!

      @AireLys: the reality is another striker would make little difference, while we play with a line striker up front, and the formation and players positions change weekly. We haven't even had the best of what we've got, so new faces will just add to the confusion. The one thing ollie does well is talking. Look at the other day, rather than address the fact we couldn't score at Leeds, instead he pushes the focus on how badly our supporters were treated. What ensued was a verbal war between our supporters on NAD he he slipped under the radar for being tactically inept! Cleaver boy ollie

    In the real world which all us fans inhabit, when you go for an interview you would have to sort out your own travel cost's or even if you had to go a long way and needed to stay over night its down to you. If you are then lucky enough to get a contract then they also expect you to pay for your own travel too work.
    This nob does not deserve to pull on a Millwall shirt, so do one and please, please, please, don't give him another chance.

      f***** hell this place is full of wallys. Isit really that hard to work out? If you want to give someone a job, and they are on trial, and they don't live near your establishment, YOU BOOK THEM A HOTEL! Or if your going for an interview miles away from your home, you will be offered a hotel. It's not rare in football, NON LEAGUE CLUBS DO IT. We might be skint, but we have the £400 it would cost to pay Bromley court hotel to look after jermaine pennant for a few days. Learn about football, learn about how the games run. Maybe then people will stop coming out with so much hot air.

            @potty1: Curbishley?? you want someone who managed the anoraks to the premier league and is seen as their best ever manager in charge of us? Lomas part 2?!! Y??? Mcdermott is not a good enough manager. Stick with IH, the last 5 games with his players and less of the old guard has given us 7 points and 1 of the defeats was a narrow away defeat. Stop complaining about everything and get behind the team and never want curbishley ever again!!!

    These sorts of things happen all the time in football but we seem to set ourselves up to be mugged off by announcing it too early. Can't say I'm too disappointed in this instance tho!

    To be fair to the club they have never said that they were after him except for the start of the season so it seems a bit unfair saying we look like idiots it seems NAD are on the ball, if you pardon the pun, bringing the news.

    "I've always got room for talent" Holloway is quoted as saying in the Daily Mirror about Pennant! How does it feel to have more egg on your face? He has been wrong about so many others. Pennant should never have been considered and smacks again of panic. If you care for the future of our great club Holloway- please go!

      @Peckhamlad: I bet you said the same about Edwards last season. I have said in a previous comment lets look at the last 5 games, huge improvements and we are begining to look like we can drag ourselves out. I want IH to stay and think he is the one to ensure our safety and get more of our youth in the first team. Prior to IH who heard of half our youth team, but all you care about is here and now results. Think of the future of our club, not just today!

        @whiteliont: No I never said anything about Carlos Edwards. I hope you might be correct about the team escaping relegation. I hope I might win the lottery too.
        However let's be realistic IH has not been the manager we hoped for and dragged the team down by his ineptitude, bizarre team selections and poor signings. If Millwall do keep themselves up it will not be down to IH but by what happens around them. If the manager finds a capable striker all well and good but who and where from?

    Does this not speak volumes about our beloved club.. Always we brought players through our youth system. I would rather Fred & marquis then any of these so called big time franky's . We ask for one thing as a millwall fan , passion . We get that from our youth who know what it means to put that lions shirt on. But hay ho who am I , just a pleb . Coyl

    Why so many having a pop over the hotel what do you think happens at other clubs ? It was a small gesture to help the bloke out after he agreed to sign.
    He has gone back on his word. Club won't have a bill to pay so what's all the fuss about ? Blame the player not the club.
    We move on to the next retirement home once harford has typed up his report and handed it in.

    I don't know if anyone made these points, but:
    a) no one knows what happened so why s*** off?
    b) he is ageing so could be forgiven for being careful with choices, if it was his choice;
    c) IH, assuming it was his choice, maybe saw traits that he has been trying to get rid of;
    d) could be a genuine and hard decision, personal or health matter.

    Whatever, pretty poor to s*** off without the facts. No wonder players are cautious coming here. I hope prospective players don't read this forum.

    How can u soppy c u n t s on here have a pop at ollie for this 2 bob c u n t f***** us about....hes obviously contacted us cos he knew we wanted him before an then low an behold the slimey little c u n t s agent has engineered a more lucrative move to wigan who are more desperate than us an have a load more money to spend.....this s l a g should be shot in the face with an elephant gun so dont have a pop at Ollie for being mugged off by a player that probably gave his word then pulled the plug.....i actually think some of u lot on here are as big a bunch of c u n t s as pennant.

      @Hurlocksgonnagetya:

      I think the point that most of us get is that it is 90% Holloways fault that we even need to be spoken of in the same sentence as Pennant....all Holloways excuses have run out now, from the lack of fitness and the Portugese training camps, to the player power in the dressing room ....remember the Dunney rant and elevation to captain.....now he has all his own team....his final excuse is used up. Its now the fault of the west yorkshire police, and a dodgy free kick against hudddersfiels blah blah blah ...laughable.

      He has taken a poorly run club due to the ineffective Berylson and Ambler, and he has put the final nail in the coffin. Do you really think he would still be here if it was not for the compensation payout he would get.

      I know I will be alone but I would rather have Lomas in charge ....he seemed an honest enough bloke totally out of his depth.....(Could one of the Stattos compare their points to games percentages) Ollie knew he had been found out and his pretentions of being a top flight manager were gone.....he jumped on to our neck on the way down, and is taking us down with him.

      I have seen a few bad managers at this club, but that is all they were bad managers, Holloway is a different breed ....a self serving, narcissistic, dreamer who believes his own hype, and has an elevated view of his own importance....he is mugging us off like no othre bad manager ever did and is the biggest wage thief of the lot. If it takes relegation to get rid of the cancer of Berylson and Ollie, it will be a step in the right direction

    Oh no sack the manager and everyone at the club! So what this pleb didn't turn up? Blessing in disguise if you ask me. Why do so many people get on ollies back all the time? He inherited a complete load of s***! Most of whom he has managed to ship out. You only need to see where these players have ended up to work out just how good they all were. I for one have been quite impressed with the players he has signed on longer term contracts. But the likes of Fuller and the Hoffman seem to be the best of a bad bunch with the wages that we can Afford. Then there are the injuries we have had, imagine if we had a fully fit squad! I think we would be a lot further up the table. But let's just say that ollie did get the sack. Who seriously are we going to get in to do a better job? Let's just get behind the manager and the team and help them up the table

    Is this the same degenerate who amoungst his misdemeanors forgot he owned a Porsche and left it at a railway station in Spain. And allegedly attacked a woman in a nightclub then crashed his car on the way home and got arrested for drink driving and being disqualified from driving. What a t***. Just the sort of leech we do not need in the Millwall dressing room.

    Pennants illustrious career to date has seen him at Leeds when they got relegated from the Premier League. He was at Birmingham City when they got relegated from the Premier League. He was at Portsmouth when they went down. Let him go to Wigan and take them down. There is a pattern emerging here that we have done well to keep out of. Rather give a premier league fringe player/youth/frontman a go than a team sinking wide man.

    Maybe someone has already said this in the 134 comments, so sorry for repeating.
    If this bloke is seen as a good acquisition, then god help us. Attitude and history should have said waste of time.
    More importantly no in roads into getting someone who can actually shoot on target. So the normal one or two shots on goal against Fulham.
    For all those who seem to be the Millwall accounts, people are well aware of the financial situation. For me its about expectations.
    If we continue to invest the way we do we will stay a upper table div1 come championship relegation team.
    If that is the case which really it has been for the last 45 years I have been supported them. (Apart from87)
    Then so be it, don't shout about ambition and I will invest my money in buying tickets likewise.
