Leeds head coach Redfearn expects tight Millwall encounter

LEEDS United head coach Neil Redfearn expects a close game against Millwall tomorrow, with both clubs battling to steer clear of relegation this season.

The Whites are five points clear of the bottom three following their midweek win at Reading but the Lions can draw their rivals back into the dogfight with victory at Elland Road.

So while Redfearn has one eye on a top-half finish, he admits Leeds' first priority is to confirm their second-tier status for next year.

"The main issue is to stay in the division and get to the 50-point mark," Redfearn told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

"But if we can get there quickly then we need to squeeze as much out of this season as we can.

"Millwall will come here and fight. They're fighting for their lives and they're finding a bit of form.

"They had a great result at Birmingham and they've beaten Nottingham Forest away from home recently so they've got good players.

"The fact that it's Millwall and we can put some distance between us and the bottom three adds more importance to it but we've got to take it as our next game.

"We're playing with confidence and we're at home. We want to continue our good form. That's the importance of it.

"It'll be tight tomorrow and there won't be much in it. We'll be working on the same premise as Millwall because that's the way out of trouble.

"Every game recently has been tight with nothing in it. Millwall are going down the same lines.

"It might not be a great game but we've got to come out with the points."

Redfearn confirmed that had been eager to complete a January deal for Martyn Woolford, who will instead line up for Millwall after Leeds' bid to sign him collapsed.

"It's no secret that I admire Woolford," Redfearn said. "He's got Championship experience, he scores goals and he gives you physical presence on the left.

"He gives you that balance and he's the type of player we're looking for."

Good to see he's aiming for 50 points. Possibly won't be enough this year.
