Millwall to open contract talks with midfielder Jimmy Abdou

MILLWALL will offer fans' favourite Jimmy Abdou a new contract.
Abdou, who has made 270 appearances for the Lions during almost seven years at the club, was due to become a free agent in the summer.
But it is understood that talks will take place in the coming weeks with a view to keeping him at The Den beyond the end of his current contract.
Manager Ian Holloway has already spoken to Abdou about extending his deal and chief executive Andy Ambler has made contact with the midfielder's agent.
Negotiations are not expected to last long, with the popular 30-year-old eager to prolong his career in SE16 having forced his way back into the side in recent weeks.
Abdou, who said recently that he could see out his playing days at Millwall, produced arguably his best performance of the season during last weekend's 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest.
Meanwhile, centre back Jos Hooiveld has stressed the importance of the Lions' mindset ahead of Saturday's clash with Huddersfield Town.
Millwall, who then travel to Birmingham and Leeds next week, will move to within four points of the 17th-placed Terriers with a win.
"This game is not more or less important than any other," Hooiveld said.
"I remember when we were fighting relegation at Southampton and our next game was QPR. People kept saying that, after that game, we had some difficult fixtures.
"But we lost to QPR and we won against Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool – so which one was the most difficult?
"Every game is worth three points and if our mindset is right, there is a good possibility we can give everybody a good run for their money."
Jimmy's should be the first name on the team sheet....and the way he's started Hooiveld second!!
@fashs forearm: totally agree, the Hoo has been immense in these last two games. Hopefully we will get him permanently in the summer..... Would be a great pairing with Sid
@fashs forearm: I wish we had a team of Jimmy's that game 110% (not possible, so don't let me know about it!) every game, if we did we would be ontop of the World and the FA would be kissing our bottoms, actually that will never happen, even if we won every single game and were World club Cup champions!!
Every team needs a player like jimmy in the side!
@Tayls: If the rest of our team had half Jimmys commitment and work rate we'd be in the top 6 .
@Tayls: no brainier heart & sole Millwall !!!!! Just give him as long as he wants !!!! Roll on sat ,,,, C O Y L Onwards
Played a blinder at Forrest, I had to sit in the home end for the first time ever (long story) an the Forrest fans were well impressed with Jimmy and Fab. I think he's shown against Forrest and Reading he is worthy of a new contract. Even as a squad player I would say he is invaluable
Worth a contract, we know what we will get 100% effort, and someone who will pressure the opponents midfield. The only thing missing is 5-6 goals a season
Legend!
WELL DONE JIMMY A, SHOULD BE A GOOD DEAL FOR A GOOD PLAYER WHO TRIES HIS BEST !
"NO ONE LIKES US WE DONT CARE"
IN OLLIE WE TRUST !
STORMIN' NORMAN....STILL WAITING FOR ANOTHER GOOD FRONT - MAN TO BE SIGNED.
@bermlion: If he is on a free can be any day now, but Emergency Loan Market opens next week, so no news on that front until then, plus if IH start talking about his targets now, then someone else might pick up our targets.
@bermlion: I can't read your posts without shouting it in my head!!!! keep up the good work berm
@bermlion: Yep, Stormin' , Jimmy Abdou deserves his place in the New MFC team, we all agree with you.Looking Forward to 3 x Points on Saturday, after a few 'Jars' .( NOLU, WDC ) .
agreeing with all of the above.
Great news.
We can never forget your only ever goal for us ( I cannot remember another) at Leeds to take us to Wembley and break their hearts after loads of them had already booked their hotels.
I do prey for the day that you score at the Den.
I will not be able to contain myself when it happens and will struggle to keep off the pitch to celebrate with you.
One of Millwall's finest ever.
@wall2wall: he's scored 5 goals for us mate, and has already scored at the den!
@dpendet:
Cheers dpendet. I'm shocked.
When did he score at the Den?
@wall2wall: Jimmy scored a cracking looping header in the 2009 season when we played Southampton at St. Mary's, first game of that season I think? Jumped up and met the ball just outside the box, was a brilliant goal!
@Bexley_Lion:
Cheers Bexley.
I'm obviously losing me memory at the young age of 47. I was at the game. Baking hot day and he scored at our end. I think he made it 1-1 and that's how it finished.
I remember they let us all out at the same time and the silly boys saints boy tried it on.
Laughable.
Well said Jos make sure the boys are up for every game. Good news about Jimmy, hope we see you for a couple more seasons at least.
@harry2310: got to make this guy captain and get him signed on a permanent deal
coyl
@Strood Lion:
ollie said when he came we had the biggest squad he had ever worked with.
with all the players that have gone and are going ,should,nt that money be spent on signing the jos and deigo
on permant contracts.
@Luvofmylife: defo mate we need these players it is the quality we have been missing for sometime. break the bank JB for both of them!!
Great news.
Well deserved James keep up the good work, and show all the new signings what is needed to wear the shirt
Good!!!!! The mans a grafter well done Jimmy
Great news. If anyone deserves it Jimmy does! He is as loyal as they come!
Proper millwall Jimmy should of got a new contract weeks ago. Never moans when he doesn't make the 1st team. Its funny they offer him it now when we've just signed tonge who plays in the same position. & we must look into signing Jos & Diego permantly before someone else jumps in.
@block 28: I would love us to sign both Hooiveld and Fabrinni but I fear both are out of our budget mate. Some sort of long term loan deal might be a possibility and judging by Fabrinni ' s performances he is loving his time with us.
@glyngo: just look at Farinni's face on the gallery someone who is enjoying playing for us. Watford fans really do not want him to go but the manager has said he is surplus so if we as a crowd, carry on giving him the Lions welcome I am sure the club can work something out, as there will be no fee involved at the end of the season.
@lennie the lion: Fabrinni would also be a good signing along side Farinni!
@block 28: hooiveld is out of contract at the end of the season..depending on wages signing him shouldn't be a problem..as for diego we might have to equal our record signing. ( and i have taken in account what watford payed for him)
When you think of the money that has been spent on some of the wasters we have signed in the past, giving Jimmy a 2 year contract is a no brained to me. He actually has improved his passing under Ollie and remains the best player in our squad for marking some one out of a game.
Well deserved
Will go down as one of walls legends (Give him the pen Oli)
Modern day Legend. With the amount of transformations in the team that have taken place since Jackett first signed him, the quality and commitment he consistently shows week-in week-out has been the only constant. How many times have managers tried to drop him only for him to force his way back into the starting XI? All this while his son was battling Leukaemia. Definition of Millwall.
Best news all season.
Jimmy definitely deserves another contract. He won't always be in the side but if you want a committed run-you-lungs-out midfielder he's the man.
I would love it if the Hoover and Fabbrini can be signed up but I think they would have to take too much of a wage cut to fit in to the pay structure (that's just an assumption, I may be wrong)
I hope you get a great deal Jimmy - you deserve it.
Did anyone see Trotter last night. Feckin' mug. He doesn't have Jimmy doing his running for him anymore and look how clueless he looks.
@SE12Lion: yes, Trotter was his usual self, ( too slow ).but Liam Feeney was Special, was gods at Millwall, but looks like Boltons Coaching Staff have brought him on another 100% . He looks so dangerous on the wing and kept sending in brilliant crosses.we think he will be snapped up by a premiership club very soon. ( NOLU, WDC )
Jimmy deserves an offer, but these agent leeches really get up my nose!
I'd offer him 5 years no problem. He's never injured. Carries no excess weight and is a natural athlete.
With that , he's a complete an utter example of what a real Millwall player is.
Does anyone know how severely is the FFP going to effect us next season?
Remember Jimmy having Fabian Delph in his pocket when the multi million pound player was at Leeds. Jimmy made him look second rate
