Lennon admits Bolton had stroke of luck against Millwall

BOLTON manager Neil Lennon sympathised with opposite number Ian Holloway after Millwall were denied a penalty during Wanderers' 1-0 win at The Den.

Holloway was furious that his side were refused a spot kick by referee Stuart Attwell, who waved away the Lions' appeals when Lee Gregory was taken out by 'keeper Andy Lonergan.

"It could easily have been given," Lennon admitted. "Andy maintained Gregory has gone into him, but the referee had a decision to make and thankfully it went our way.

"I can understand Ian's frustration, we're both in same position. Maybe we've had a stroke of luck. I don't think the ref had a great game for either side."

We can't keep blaming the officials for our poor form. Yes, it should have been a penalty. Yes, some of the decisions were appalling and went against us. But did we ever look like scoring? No! Did we look in control at the back? No! Did we dominate midfield? No! We need to be making our own luck to WIN a game for ourselves, not hoping that someone I'd going to hand the points to us.

@Hedgehog: I could not agree more. I get sick of hearing Holloway blaming the officials, the pitch, the weather or anything else he can think of. The only way to win games is to actually put the ball in the back of the net, something we just have not been able to master. Sort it out before its to late.

Gregs made a great run but he scuffed his chip, and sliced it back to their defender 5 yards away,i was well disappointed but, sorry, it was no longer a "goal scoring opportunity",and I reckon that's why the ref didn't give it...so I'm not gonna say we were robbed..

@denwescore:The keeper was late, it's a foul in the box which makes it a penalty. The goals scoring opportunity part only comes into account for a red card

We need to create far more chances, especially at home. Penalty or not; we're left clutching at straws.

@Jim28: Our fate should be decided by our players and our manager. Poor decision or not, we didn't do enough to win the game. It's not the ref's fault or Lennon's - the problem lies squarely with Holloway. Unlike the last days of KJ, I actually believe we have some decent players in the squad and could be quite competitive given a couple of ASTUTE signings and a manager who can get the best out of what we have . Trouble is, I don't personally trust Holloway to do either.

Spent an afternoon during the WC in 2002 drinking with a smashed Neil Lennon after bumping in to him in a Temple Bar pub in Dublin. He got loadsa stick from a bunch of Hearts fans all day and although he was on his own he took it all in good spirit, decent fella then so no reason to think different now and he was up front and honest re the penalty decision on Football Focus earlier.

Can't see what all the fuss is about! We had a lucky win against Brighton, and a predictable loss last night. Hopefully the teams below us remain s*** then we will have a chance of staying up

Would of been a harsh penalty. Gregory had no chance of getting the ball after he chipped it over the keeper.

We should be putting the likes of bolton away penalty or not. How long does IH get to put things right,if we go down should he be the one to bring us back up. Its funny cause if he played for west ham he would be gone by now.

Fair play to him admitting they got lucky... But it doesn't change the fact that we were poor on the day anyway... Let's hope we don't go on another 14 game winless run...
Big games over Xmas and new year... We need some massive performances!

I was thinking that as a sign of support we should have a minutes clapping in the 41st minute, to signify the 41 lionnhearts we have in our first team squad ?
