Bolton striker: I left Millwall for bigger and better things

EX-Millwall trainee Conor Wilkinson has claimed that he left the club for "bigger and better things" at Bolton ahead of his return to The Den on Friday.

Wilkinson came through the Lions' academy ranks but turned down a professional deal to sign terms with Wanderers instead.

Last weekend, the 19-year-old made his Championship debut for Bolton in a 0-0 draw with Ipswich.

And speaking to the Bolton News about his first game back in SE16, the young striker said: "It [leaving] wasn't a difficult decision because Bolton are a much bigger club.

"Physically I was going to get better here and mentally I'll learn a lot more from the players here. It was a big step up – this is really a Premiership club.

"I need to be mentally focused for it, as best I can. The fans there are reckless. If they come for you, they'll come for you.

"I hope I'll be okay. My family will be there and they'll help carry me through it. I need to show Millwall why I left – bigger and better things."

[leaving] wasn't a difficult decision because Bolton are a much bigger club.

bolton, leeds, wigan all bigger clubs with no more points than millwall who we all agree are nowhere near where we want them to be. Bigger debts, bigger failures.

"Physically I was going to get better here and mentally I'll learn a lot more from the players here. It was a big step up – this is really a Premiership club.

How did he know he was going to get bigger? How does he know he will learn more from the players? here how does he knows who will stay ? how much they will teach him?

"I need to be mentally focused for it, as best I can. The fans there are reckless. If they come for you, they'll come for you.'

He means the fans are 'ruthless' - we don't all go out drinking and driving and are 'reckless, but we are unforgiving of an illiterate imbecile who had been given a decent chance and went to a desperate indebted team who he thinks are a premiership club.

Maybe somebody showed him a premiership table of when bolton were there without mentioning the date. Maybe somebody offered him a bit more money told him rent was cheaper in bolton.

'If they come for you, they'll come for you.' Does he think he is Bodie or Marlowe out of the Wire?
No rephrase 'if they think your 'scum' or any other 4 letter word they chose to use, they will tell you. To your use your repetition, they will tell you

"I hope I'll be okay. My family will be there and they'll help carry me through it'.

I am sure you are smart enough to point out your family to MFC CBL, who will be more than ready to sympathise with how they managed to bring up a totally disrespectful disloyal and thick son and who will be one day saying 'our boy could have been good, but he loved a pound note....'

"I hope I'll be okay. My family will be there and they'll help carry me out of it'.

'My family at the Den will see me through' or maybe they might hear a little bit of disappointment at their son. Just how thick is this kid? They should keep him at home to start on the "Jack and Jill' books.
Did he sign bolton contract? with thumbprint?

ex MFC bolton df "Thumb is that the one on the end? The one I keep poking in my eye'

Or is it the other one that seems to always end up my a***?

Coner you were given three year's at millwall in fact millwall gave you your chance in football and you accepted that chance,if then you decided to move on you had thanked millwall for the chance they had given you but felt you needed to move on,then fair enough,we all need to make decision's that suit our own need's,but you did not,you have slagged us off.
To you i say good riddence and we do not need your back stabbing type of person at Millwall.
If you want to see how a footballer should act toward's the club's that have given him his chance,i suggest you go onto youtube and look at 60 minut's Austrailia T Cahill, here is a man who was given his chance by Millwall, was offered better term's by two bigger club's,yet signed for Millwall because they had given him his chance. He then went on to a bigger club and made his fortune, that club was everton.
Tim Cahill is not just a legend at Millwall, but at Everton also,in doing so he has united two set's of fan's.
This is the opposite of what you have done, not only have you soured the relationship between Millwall and Bolton, you have alienated your own family from the millwall fan's.
In ending this post all i can say is you are one selfish little runt who may become succesful as a footballer, but you have a lot to learn as a person,as i said YOUTUBE,australia 60 minut's Tim Cahill is the thing to watch, and you will learn how to be a real man.

I think what he's actually trying to say in an adverse way is that he has self confidence issues, low self esteem and he's very insecure. He's made a decision and deep down he's not so sure it was the right one. If Bolton are so good why have they sniffed around our club sonoften the past few years? Taken players off our hands and thos players haven't excelled and haven't set the world alight since moving on. Infact they've gone backwards if anything. We're a lot better off without Feeney and Trotter and he was a youth player who was offered a contract and turned it down for what exactly? A more staple diet of chips and gravy. Turn it in son. I hope you end up on a stretcher come Friday night. 2 bob c#@t.

I don't blame the bloke for moving on. Most of us have made similar career choices and Jackett wasn't giving our youth players a shot at playing in the fist team (except Marquis for some reason as yet unknown). Not a good choice to say anything remotely off about Millwall, though, as the reaction here demonstrates. A bit of gratitude for the club teaching him his trade would have been welcome. I hope he plays on Friday and Beevers makes him look like a donkey.

@Jim28: You are right Jim, one game here or there isn't going to keep these youngsters. Powell was hoiked off the other day and Fred is only a bit part player when he was included. At the risk of being shot down, I'm gonna say that what I have seen of Fred so far is not amazing. He has bags of potential but what level of performance is he really delivering when he gets a first team game? I am not sure that he or O'Brien will be ready for regular first team action next season.

This is where the loan system should kick in,3 or 4 game's out on loan can work wonder's for a young player,it can also show if he is up to scratch helping the club to make decision's on a lad's future.
As for fred i agree with you, when i have seen him play he has tried to many leg over type trick's instead of using his pace to go past player's,but i am sure he will learn and come good, with all the youngster's we have and the right mix of experienced player's [after we get rid of all the dead wood wage thieve's,i think the future look's good
Though i have been critical of IH,the basic structure of the club is looking a whole lot better than it has done for year's,so im still 100% behind IH and hope we can stay up this year and kick on next year.

      @wall2wall:

Kinda my take on the sorry statement that Wilkinson made.
Should just concentrate on his Football career, knuckle down
      and get on with it.

Ridiculous comments to make about the club that gave you a chance and invested in making you the player you are.

Even for a footballer you're stupidity and lack of gratitude is shocking.

You've achieved absolutely f*** all so far in your career and I'm glad we are shot of you as your exactly the kind of overpaid footballer that I detest. Frankly I hope your football career peters out leaving you to end up with a normal job like the rest of us reflecting on what could have been.

Well Conor, congratulations on the most stupid comment of the week. Never ceases to amaze me how thick these young footballers are. Or did Millwall not educate you enough as well.
You may well get the normal sh*t my pants flu by Friday, like most returning players tend to get, but be assured the wall do not forget and your card has been marked, we will look forward to your return be it Friday or beyond.
