Nicky Bailey to be eased back into full Millwall training

NICKY Bailey took part in Millwall training on Monday but will not be rushed back into competitive action, boss Ian Holloway has said.

A string of calf injuries have limited Bailey, who was a key figure in the Lions' survival bid last season to just two appearances since August.

Holloway revealed: "Nicky started training this week but he hasn't played for two or three months. It was a joy to watch him in our session. He did 60 minutes on Monday.

"We're going to have to be very careful. He's had a similar injury that's kept happening so we can't take risks.

"He's a warrior but we've got to hold him back. He's getting a bit frustrated but it was great to see him out there."

I know this is not related to this story but have just heard from a very reliable source that Malone will be leaving in the January window

@Surrey Lion: That's disappointing if true, but he is out of contract in the summer due to the club's incompetence, so we should probably cash in now. If we get some money for him near his value that will be OK. However, like Trotter, I reckon it's likely that we will get a lower sum as his contract is ending soon, so it will be a decision on whether we can do without him for the rest of the season. At least Briggs can fill that slot and may be a decent replacement. Not sure on that yet.

@junkmale: I've said it a few times now, Briggs will be fine if we have someone on the left of midfield, every game I've been to when he has played he looks to be entirely on his own on that left side.

@wolla5: is the striker Tom Pope? He has a serious injury so won't be ready to step straight back into the fray.

@block 28: shame to lose Malone, he has a lot of potential and was developing well, but Ollie doesn't seem to have a lot of confidence in him. With only one recognised LB if he goes, I hope we have a replacement in the pipeline.

@dpendet: He's the guy who plays the first couple and the last few games of each season and is probably only match fit for about 2 of them. Even Fuller puts in more game time than Bailey.

Personally I think we miss Bailey in the middle for his leadership. You can tell that IH want Upson and Williams there for the long haul but neither have got what it takes at the moment to boss our players about and try to put mix it. We need to stand up and be counted and for to long there hasn't been enough fight in midfield. As for Malone if he goes I won't miss him. Don't get me wrong but I'm used to full backs who make good hard challenges for the ball - never seen him do this once. I also like full backs to put in half decent crosses - Malone's either go out of play, hit the first man or are over hit. While I'm having a moan I wish people would stop going on about putting Fred in he team, he's only just turned 18 and the way the senior professionals are playing I think that would only knock him. Look at Powell v Middlesbrough, he didn't deserve to be subbed but he was let down by the rest of the team. In my experience of going to Millwall I have seen a few promising young players go back into their shell in these circumstances. Getting a few youngsters out on loan is a good thing as they get to play more games without our fans getting on their backs. Give them time and we will have a great team possibly one to rival the likes of Cahill, Reid, Harris and Ifill.

Personally I think we should ease Nicky Bailey back into the transfer market come January and see if anyones gullible enough to buy him. Lets try and get some money for Darren Andertons long lost cousin. As good as he is he's too often injured to be consistent enough to be considered for the squad. Offload Chaplow and theres plenty more that can go. If we can free up the wage bill aswell as claw back some finance from clearing out dead wood and no good journey men before the summer transfer window ( when it may be too late) im all for it. Lets sign decent players to play in the obvious positions we need to fill. Combined with some of the better youth players we have, we might just might have a chance of making some sort of impact in the championship come May. Mid table would be a decent achievement.then look in the summer for what we need to backfill the rest. Reduce the squad size to cater for quality over quantity and roll on next season. Because i'm fed up of attending every home game and some away games and forgetting what it feels like to get three points in the bag. Im tired of conceding two goals or more before players pull their fingers out. Im tired of not being able to thrash teams by 4 or 5 goals on the odd occasion. Im tired of seeing so much potential but no end product. Im also tired of hearing what we should've of/ could've done to get the win after its failed to happen. And whilst i'm at it... I'm tired of News at Den being a forum where all we do (and rightly so) is moan, moan, moan. It should be a forum for banter and for us all to enjoy the clubs achievements on the pitch and reflect on whats working and going well as opposed to whats not good and what needs to happen asap before we end up in League 1 and give the Anoraks and Hammers supporters more reason to berate us! Rant over! Please could someone up there hear what im saying and deliver! FFS!

Bailey is a big miss for us but can he recover fitness and form in time to have a positive impact on this season. When fit he can turn our midfield into a true force.

When he is fit and playing he does a good job but we cant afford for him to miss half a season and I fear with age it may be more frequent , im afraid he may just be heading to that leper colony that all great injured players end up at yes ............. Orient

Well I suppose if we offload Malone we might be able to get Doyle in with the cash, but we will need to get cover at left back. I'm not sure we've got anyone else for left back except Beevers (and the rumour is he wants to leave as well)

Isn't Malone's wife about to have/or just had a baby ? becoming a dad affects blokes in all sorts of ways, maybe that;s why he's not playing well, maybe he hasn't been getting enough sleep, possibly that's why he responded like that to the dockers stand,he might just be having a hard time at the moment ,and got frustrated cos the gaffer was playing that stupid system, just saying.

I have no problems with fans swearing at players or players swearing at fans. Don't talk to me about professionalism, we don't actually employ these players the club does. So street rules apply.
