Millwall manager impressed with Peeters' start at Charlton

IAN Holloway has been impressed with the job done by former Lions striker Bob Beeters at Charlton.

The Addicks were struggling with Millwall at the bottom-end of the table last year but are just a point below the play-off positions after 17 games of the new season.

Peeters, who scored three goals in 25 appearances for Millwall between 2003 and 2005, took over at The Valley in the summer.

Charlton owe a lot of their early-season success to the form of new signing Igor Vetokele, who has already bagged eight goals.

Asked for his thoughts on Peeters, Holloway said: "He's done well but anything can happen on Saturday – just because they've had a good start, it doesn’t mean that will continue.

"If you look at Nottingham Forest, they had a really good start and now they can't buy a win at the minute.

"Peeters has impressed me – he's wanted to build on the existing squad rather than bringing in players from here, there and everywhere.

"And wherever he found that centre forward from, well done to him.

"They have got someone in the top-scoring echelons and he's helped them get the extra points to be above us – that's why goalscorers earn so much money.

"We've just got to get ours functioning – we were very unlucky against Brentford with the chances we created and if they keep going, the goals will go in.

"Lee Gregory, for example, couldn't do much more with his header that hit the bar."

Charlton's new owner, Roland Duchâtelet, has financed several signings from overseas.

"Peeters is doing very well but what part of it is he doing?" said Holloway. "Is it his scouting network or his owners’?

"Charlton are owned by a Belgian so they have extensive contacts.

"When they first took over, Charlton were Standard Liege's reserves – even their fans were fuming about that – but it isn't like that now.

"What I've got to do is pay them massive respective and say well done for the way they're getting results.

"They've got a few academy players in their squad and it looks like they're getting it right."

Ollie - watch and learn. A new manager who's hit the ground running and doing well with limited resources. He's also brought in a forward who scores goals. So less silly talk and more results please.

If buying a centre forward for £3 million means limited resources, then yes, very limited.

@Jim28: Jim28, he should concentrate on pouring 'Praise' on the Millwall Super Supporters, after what we have to put up with, everywhere and by everybody not connected with MFC. ( Headley Court Excluded ). NOLU, WDC .
