Millwall could make moves in loan market ahead of deadline

MILLWALL have not ruled out the possibility of adding a new face to their squad before the emergency loan window closes in the Football League next Thursday.

The Lions won't be able to strengthen until January once the deadline for short-term deals passes on November 27.

But manager Ian Holloway is already working with a large group so his priority is to source temporary homes for some of his fringe players and youngsters.

Millwall have tentatively enquired about QPR's Matt Phillips and Blackburn's Luke Varney – players Holloway worked with at Blackpool – but their clubs won't loan them out.

Phillips scored twice against the Lions in a reserve fixture last week – so they asked whether he would be available but were told that he's needed at Loftus Road.

Varney signed for Holloway when the Tangerines were in the Premier League, scoring five goals, but Blackburn don't want their squad to get any smaller.

Holloway also has his eye on a Premier League target but is relucatant to borrow a young player without giving Fred Onyedinma and Aiden O'Brien more game time.

Last week, Chris Eagles turned down a move to The Den before linking up with Blackpool for a trial.

Holloway acknowledges that his side needs to score more goals but believes he has enough firepower within his existing ranks.

"We are making chances without converting enough of them," he said. "Hopefully that's just a spell we've been in but that's what the difference is.

"If we had someone on eight or nine goals, where we would be in the league? So let's keep going and working at it because that's all it is.

"I've got some really good options already – Lee Gregory and Ricardo Fuller both have three goals – and Shaun Williams and Alan Dunne have chipped in too.

"We need goals from every department.

"We haven't had the fortune of getting an early goal and growing into a game like we did against Cardiff. We might have to go from back to front earlier in games."

I know he may be a bit past us now, but there's no harm in trying is there? he's proven to us already that he can score in our league and in europe (albeit against crap teams). He also knows what we're about, probably lives local enough, so why not? the worst that can happen is they say no and we don't have to pay for his wages?

There is too much pressure on our attackers caused by a crap defence. Almost every game they know they are need to have to score at least 2-3 goals because we struggle at the back. Sort the defence out and then everything else will fall into place. This mentality of outscoring other teams is useless, we need to go in to games with the mindset of conceding nothing and building from there. If you don't concede you can't lose.

@mfclions: Southampton have already stated they will spend 10mil to get him in jan. Spurs said don't bother. No chance we get him on loan ever again I'm afraid.

F****** hell! I did thing he'd be a bit past us, but I didn't expect that! I guess we'll have to settle with an injured 35 year old has-been who's scored 2 goals in their last 100 games on £20k a week then.

I'd stick with giving the younger players a run in the team. Ollie's already used far too many players and there comes a time when the manager's got to show he can get the best out of what we've got - rather than constantly swapping and changing.

Ollie will never sign another striker as he has said that he hates 4-4-2, so it will be another midfielder or attacking full back!
It's time Ollie swallowed a bit of his pride and have an option of a 4-4-2 system.

@AireLys: Yet when we have been a goal down in the last 15/20 minutes he puts another striker on. Against Brentford he took Beevers off for Ranegie.

Goal scoring strikers are like gold dust and cost as much. We will never have the luxury of buying such a player so we need to unearth players such as Neil Harris and now Lee Gregory. Bomber never played up front on his own and would never have scored so many goals without a strike partner to keep the defenders occupied. We should also be asking where the next Richard Sadlier is going to come from but if you dont play the kids you will never know what they are capable of.

Holloway needs to start tapping in to the January transfers from a different angle, all the players that are likely to move on from Premier league clubs get them in now to get their fitness up. People like Lukas Podolski is doing nothing at Arsenal and is widely believed to be moving on in January so why not take him on and use him to both our and Arsenal's advantage by giving him games and getting him matchfit ready for his new club? I know this is a massive fairy tale but if you don't ask you don't get.

How about going back in for Benik Afobe in January? 15 goals in 20 games for MK Dons is stand out at that level and against better oppo in cups. It also proves he's back from the bad injury he suffered with us on loan the first time.

Hes being used as fresh legs for the last 15-20 mins and if ollie wants a "shoot on site" player (as previously posted) then why not take a punt on a proven goal scorer ...... Plus him and greggs up font would be deadly!!!!!
One plays off the shoulder of the defenders and one aint affrad to put his boot through it
The lion and the poacher combination

Just need to sort out a steady CONSISTENT back 4

Just how bad is our scouting (shocking if you think about it ) we have very little money so lets go look at a few of the lower division players and give them a trail , not another old mate of the managers who has hardly set the world alight since Blackpool 4 seasons ago . Alex Flisher of Maidstone looks a good player could possibly do a job for us next season im sure there are loads out there that could possibly be our next Morrison if not then lets use the likes of Fred and Nelson who need a run of games for Millwall not loaning out .

F*** me , virtually 6,000 at home to Blackburn & some of us think we can loan out Kane, Podolski or even Chris Woods who turned us down but is still getting selected in the premier league.
Eagles chose shitty blackpool over us!
How deluded are our fans becoming.
