Gestede the dangerman for Blackburn, says Millwall boss

DANNY Shittu and Mark Beevers will return to Millwall's back four to handle the threat posed by Blackburn Rovers striker Rudy Gestede.

The 6ft4in striker has scored 20 goals in 35 appearances for Gary Bowyer's side since a £200,000-move from Cardiff City.

Lions boss Ian Holloway revealed after Saturday's defeat to Watford that Shittu and Beevers would start the game as his two centre backs.

And Holloway says he will add height to Millwall's defence to deal with Gestede.

Discussing Blackburn's attacking style, Holloway said: "They play with switched wingers, so a right-footer on the left and a left-footer on the right.

"They'll try to cut inside and let their full backs run outside us. They'll hit Gestede early but we'll have big centre backs in the team to deal with him.

"It won't matter if he's on the left or the right because both centre backs can mark him."

Holloway last week explained his policy of rotating players when Millwall have three games in a week.

But despite regularly changing his starting XI, the Lions boss does not believe performances have suffered.

He said: "I'm trying to keep the level of our performance consistents by making sure we are fresh. The workload in the Championship is outrageous.

"So Shittu is ready to play and fit – like he was on Saturday – but I decided this would be the better game for him.

"After keeping a clean sheet away at Wigan, did Alan Dunne and Byron Webster deserve to be dropped against Cardiff? Probably not, but I put Shittu and Beevers in and that worked.

"Continuity would be ideal but we need the right balance of freshness and different players for different opponents.

"I can see plenty of consistency in our performances.

"We're evolving all the time and we're getting better all the time."

Holloway has earmarked set-piece defending as an area for improvement.

"Our open play has been magnificent," he said. "We haven't let a goal in from open play for a month.

"That tells me that we're winning the ball back well and getting three men inside the width of the goal – everything that we didn't have when I first came in.

"But we've conceded from set-plays, be it a free kick, a throw in or a corner, so we've got to deal with that."

Actually Shittu don't!! Because he will be injured for a long time and then sign for us on a season loan and score 0 goals and take £10K a week and provide us with contining amounts of useless soundbites instead of goals!!@foxy:

One solution to the problem...Buy a decent striker and play 2 upfront and let them build a partnership!! It's all good changing the team every game but we are in desperate need to keep a settled team, we have not done this for the last 3 seasons and we have been dog do do. Does anyone have a state of the amount of games played in the last 3 seasons and how many have been won?

Forget Gestede and Rhodes, the talking point after will be Gregory's first hat trick at this level and how many millions he's now worth.
