Millwall boss: Danny Shittu will start against Blackburn

MILLWALL boss Ian Holloway has revealed that Danny Shittu, Mark Beevers and Scott Malone are in line to start against Blackburn on Tuesday.

Speaking after Saturday's 3-1 loss to Watford, Holloway explained that he took the decision last week to rotate the players in his defence ahead of playing twice in four days.

Shittu was named on the bench at Vicarage Road after scoring the winner against Cardiff on his first league appearance of the season.

But Holloway feels that the Nigerian will be better-suited to facing Rovers tomorrow.

"Shittu is ready for Tuesday, yeah," confirmed the Lions manager. "I know what my team is for Blackburn and I've got to do things like that.

"Scott Malone and Matthew Briggs have both been out and only trained twice last week, so I started Briggs on Saturday and Malone will start Tuesday.

"I'd already told the players. I have looked at it and that's what we've got to do. I felt that playing Danny in the home game against Blackburn would be right.

"I'll probably put Beevers in as well. I've got to utilise what I've got.

"We were a little bit short up front with Gregory injured as well and we're not blessed with the squads that some clubs have got.

"Gregory's injury isn't serious and he should be okay for Tuesday."

Not a fan of Shittu, but against Cardiff he was brilliant along with Beevers, their reward to be dropped against Watford for a player who's position is right back! Sort it out Holloway get a settled team. Of course they should start against Blackburn, Dunne and Webster were part of a defence that conceded three sloppy goals!!! Feeling frustrated with IH !

@bermlion: Agree that Beevers is one of our best, Shittu though has to be played against strong attacks, quick passing teams will get past him too easily. His performance against Cardiff was good, but his old habit of falling 'on his 'Arris' happened a few times when he got turned by the quick attacker.

Not sure why he needs to show he's hand well before the kick off stating shittu will play, they can now work out what partRhodes will play, most teams keep the line up a secret until just before the kick off, hopefully dunne will be on the bench as that is he's best position, can't fault he's commitment but he is never a championship footballer.

It was a changed team that beat Cardiff, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

It was understandable DS would not play against watford..1 he has just come back to full fitness(took to long imo).2 watford has a fast attack(to fast for dan). So resting him for the bolton giants was a good idea..

Good idea not to play shittu against Watford he wouldn't of lived with there forwards but once probably fit should be in the team every week. Not sure about beevers looked nervous & clumsy against Cardiff. & Briggs to stay at left back.

Is it a good idea to reveal who will and won't play in defence the day before a game?? Blackburn now have a chance to plan accordingly and perhaps put a couple of speedy forwards in their team instead of big men!!

Changing the defence to suit oppo strikers is daft. Just play your best team, All the consistent sides play with the same players more or less, all this chopping and changing is IH trying to be clever and it aint working.
