Preview: Millwall vs. Birmingham City

JUSTIN Hoyte could make his first league start for Millwall since Boxing Day last year.

With Nicky Bailey ruled out through injury, Jimmy Abdou is expected to return to midfield and vacate the right-back berth for Hoyte.

But manager Ian Holloway could also change his formation and start with three at the back.

If Holloway sticks with four in defence, he could deploy a midfield diamond and play with two strikers – like he did against Southampton in the league cup.

That would leave the likes of Ricardo Fuller, Mathias Ranegie, Lee Gregory and Magaye Gueye competing to play up front.

Lee Martin and Carlos Edwards (both knee) are sidelined. Angel Martin has a torn calf.

Birmingham will be without USA international Jonathan Spector, who has a thigh strain.

Neal Eardley (knee), Gavin Gunning (knee), Matt Green (knee) and Lee Novak (knee) are all out.

If Gregory doesn't feature for at least the majority of the game tonight then it would be fairer to sell him on and see if he can resurrect his career else where because it must be ruining what was a promising player. The way he appears to have been treated stinks.

      @Sealion:

stop looking for trouble where it doesn't exist - we started the season well without him - then he got injured - now he is back fit he has to show what he can do - and then if he plays poorly tonight there will be people slating him for that - it is utterly ridiculous how people react to things on here sometimes - 37 games to go to prove what sort of player he is - if he can't wait a few weeks to play , he is not much of a pro - far better players than him sit out games

@timchimes: Think you might be wrong there mate? Most people on here a willing to give Gregory a chance. That means a run of games.

I think what's ridiculous are some of the things IH comes out with on here or is quoted as saying? It's bound to get a reaction from the all of us who care.

Have you seen their injury list? If we can't win tonight, we won't get an easier chance. COYW

@Jim28: It does look bad, but it might've just been a case of bad timing Jim.. Personally, I don't think the Southampton game counts because I honestly don't think IH was that bothered about staying in that cup - 3 youth players made their debuts that night - brought 1 of the young lads on over a senior player, when we had a chance of getting back in it..... It couldn't have been too long after that he picked up an injury - again, we weren't told nothing....
Another possibility - he might've not been looking good in training - compared to the others, plus he's not the tallest of fellas, so IH might've put Reggie in instead for that reason...?? who knows?
Hope to see Greggs play tonight though....... we'll see...

I have to disagree with you there mate. I think if anyone is slating him here, it's you. We started the season well WITH him then he got injured, and i think he has a right to be frustrated with a lack of game time, seeing that we did spend £250000 on him, and that when he played, holloway seemed to have nothing but praise for him, and that he isn't getting into a team where the only other strikers are fuller and ranegie. I haven't seen him play yet, but i am itching to.

Gregory sat out most of the early games then sat out two I think with a suspicious hip injury.WWhat annoys me most is that's our money, the fans, who support the club that is sitting on the bench wasting away while IH comes up with excuse after excuse which boils down to the ultimate fact, we have no teeth up front. No more excuses tonight IH. Put Gregory in the starting line up rather than the wasters that have been starting and see how he gets on. Tonight is a fantastic opportunity against a very poor team who for the fans, would love to see get proper hammered! Don't waste our money on the bench then moan about another poor performance and loss of points. COYL really buzzing for tonight!

    4-3-3-

Jimi in front of the back 4.

Williams and Upson (who were excellent against Forest and Reading) in front of Jimi.

I would be tempted to play Geuye, Gregory and McD up front

3 points tonight or we are in s-:t street. I honestly thought with Ollies appointment that we were going to have a positive season. Now I'm not so sure. The last two seasons left a sour taste in my mouth and I dont want to revisit that. Player injuries take longer when a team are struggling because , I think , they hav'nt got the confidence to rejoin their colleagues. Just a thought so could be way off beam.

To me it all seems to be about our midfield we either boss the game or chase it lets hold on to the ball and improve our passing ,which at times has been great and send them brummies back up the m1 crying into their cheesy chips

All this reminds me of the shannigans with Grabban...not being played and when he was played, he was played out of the wrong position...Now look at him, banging them in for Norwich. Even if Gregory does not impress in training, he is stepping up from Non-League and maybe finding it hard to traing almost every day. He also may not be showing much because he maybe holding back for when he plays...IMO we should give him a starting role for 5 games, should he not perform, loan him out to League 1 for the rest of the season and then take a chance next season and bring in someone who knows where the goal is and can walk the walk and not talk the amount of bull that we have been media fed since the start of the season!!

It's a joke mate. There's too many studenty types on here or people who just talk out of their a******* and don't know Millwall. People talk like we really f***** up losing Grabban, like I say read the book! Then there's Gregory who anyone would think is pele, the blokes not even played 10 games at this level and people are putting our hopes on him! Then there's the 'were in the s***' group who think we are going down because we've lost a few games , and it's the start of OCTOBER. People need to get real.

@82wall: Never been a big Holloway fan 82 and I think he got a little bit lucky keeping us up last year. I don't think we've got a cat in hells chance of being relegated though as he'll do enough to keep us up, especially as I think we are trying to keep out of one relegation place above Blackpool and Rotherham. Grabban wasn't at the races with us, he's obviously grown up a bit and realised what a privileged career he has. I siad when we signed him that I hope we weren't pinning all our goals on Gregory, it's a big jump and it'll take him time to settle in to the Championship.

Nothing like a good over reaction. There's some very mentally unstable people that post on this site. People need to remember how big a step up Gregory has made also. Wouldn't want to be in the trenches with some on here. I think some people actually think their comments on here get read by players or the manager by the way they write their little essays. Just relax people. This is getting embarrassing. WERE ALL DOOOOOMED. FOLD THE CLUB
