CARLOS Edwards is in hospital after undergoing "reconstructive" knee surgery.
The popular defender damaged ligaments and ruptured his hamstring against Nottingham Forest last Saturday and saw a specialist earlier this week.
Edwards now had an operation and will spend the next two nights in hospital.
Physio Bobby Bacic told the club's official site:
"Carlos had a detailed knee operation last night; it was long and involved full reconstructive surgery to his ligaments.
"Because of the severity of the injury he sustained, Carlos is staying in hospital for the next two nights to set him up as best as possible for his rehabilitation.
"Once out of hospital, he will remain on crutches and in a brace for the next six weeks. We will then take it stage by stage.
"The surgeon was very pleased at the end of the operation and Carlos is in a positive frame of mind."
Meanwhile, trialist Chris Eagles has been invited to continue training with the club next week.
