Millwall striker extends Cheltenham loan until November

JOHN Marquis' loan stay at Cheltenham has been extended by a further two months.

Marquis has been a regular in the Robins' side since moving to the League Two club at the start of September, scoring one goal in six appearances.

And now the Millwall forward will remain in Gloucestershire until November.

Cheltenham manager Mark Yates said: "John has given us energy and has been a real goal threat. I'm sure the goals will come and given more time he'll be good for us.

"The lad has settled in well and is enjoying playing with us. He's delighted to be staying for another two months."

I was a goalkeeper and i never ever scored an own goal.
But as he is a paid pro who is a centre forward i expect more from him, especially when my season ticket money helps pay his wages.
then that was another of your stupid nonsensical post's benzo, please try and be a bit more intelligent as your post's bring the website into disrepute LOL

Give the kid a break, he plyed really well against Premier League Southampton and showed real signs of potential. at 22 I am sure we haven't seen the best of him yet.

He may be better than easter, but that's no big deal neither can hit a barn door, although easter is better at hitting the crossbar than he is at putting the ball in the net.

I am sorry but I just cannot see the potential in him at all.
That's about his 3rd loan to League 2 and he has hardly set things alight.
I always thought the Danny Hockton showed much more potential - and he ended up in Non-League football ?

I am with you on this one longfied,im afraid sentiment does not come into it for me,player,s who dont make the first team squad, either improve year on year or make way for some one else.after all he as had his chances over a long enough period of time to have proved himself.

Tell you all you need to know.

To be honest foxy we cant keep relying on luck, apart from the odd game he has not shown much,we are screaming out for a goal scorer and i am afraid john is not that man his wages are needed to help pay for some one else especially now we have this fair play rubbish from those that rule us.

jim its not that i have any thing against the boy,but he has not improved enough imo ,so it can only be in his interest to play in a lower league and he might click and prove people like me wrong, but at the moment he is a bit of a liability, but then IH saw some thing in him to give him a year extension on his contract,so who am i to doubt IH.

Wishing John well - he needs a run of games not 6 but 20 to find his feet. People are to quick to write people off the guy has got to learn his trade and if that's in league 2 so be it.

Turbo he has had enough time and chances to prove himself at millwall and to be fair he has not done it,if he does well in the lower div so be it,but are you saying he deserved a run of 20 games,if you are thats being unfair to o'brian and pavey and any other yougster who is coming through if we persevere with some one who has had many chances and has not taken them.
I am not having a personal dig at the boy its a fact he is not up to championship level ,IH gave him an extra years contract so by being loaned out but it seems to me IH might be givtng him his last chance.

@jim1222: Hi Jim. I'm not talking about 20 games in a Millwall shirt. I mean twenty games on loan. It would take anyone of us time to find our feet in a new team and he's not going to shoot the lights out in the first few games (without a bit of luck) after not playing regular football. Hopefully the loan will do him good and if he comes back a better player all to the good. If he gets sold off the back of other interest from the loan spell then that's another positive if it's not going to work out for him here.

I haven't seen much improvement in many players in the last couple of years.
Let's face it most of ours players have struggled to develop in the last few seasons. Only since IH has arrived have things kicked on.

Even Morrison was a flop last year. Not knocking him as a player (I'm a fan) but no one has done it like Bomber since...Well Bomber!

Don't rate Marqius, even though he is young he just isn't a goal scorer and he might learn to become a better player but you cant teach scoring goals, if he was gonna be any good he would have showed it by now.

I am not an expert, but I wonder sometimes, after years of trying as a striker where expectations are high and statistcs speak for themselves (ie, goals), why in these cases players don't try to reinvent in another playing position. Does anyone have good examples?

marquis' wages are insignificant - Cheltenham are most prob paying half and so it amounts to nothing compared to the other players - I don't think our wage budget can take another well paid striker and we might need him at some stage this season to play a few substitute roles - so have an open mind and see how he progresses

I disagree his wages are not a issue we are always hearing on here about we are a small club making up the numbers shopping in pound stretcher etc

So how can we justify not only paying but extending a contract who can't do what he's paid for ? This is not just a dig about marquis by the way !!

@bobthelion: he's had years to prove that he's got what it takes to be a striker and has failed. Will he ever be any good? I doubt it.

Throughout all that time he has been paid £1000s per month by wall, indirectly we the fans have in fact paid him.

I think he's done quite well out of the deal and if some of us rightly want to point out that's he's not actually very good were entitled to do so.

The point is if we persevered with every player who was not up to it millwall would have hundred's of players on the books.

Let's give the guy some more time. Sadlier took awhile to flourish, this kid could be the same. I reckon we should give him to the end of the season and then make a decision. If he bangs a few goals in but still isn't good enough for the championship then hopefully, someone will take him and we can recoup some of the Gregory money. Whatever happens knocking him doesn't help us either way. Good or bad we want our players to play with confidence.

this is a very fair evaluation - why are so many comments on here extreme - as things stand marquis is not effective enough for the championship - he knows that , we know that and Holloway knows that - he is not quick enough, doesn't have a great shot or control of the ball and isn't strong enough to hold it up = but things can change - he is a bit weak - players mature at different rates , he strikes me as the sort of lad that will strengthen up mid 20s - he most probably will never cut it at the championship level but you don't always know - look at Grabban

Sky Sports understands highly-rated Manchester City youngster Jordy Hiwula is a loan target for a number of Championship clubs.

Hiwula, who has represented England at Under 18 and 19 level, is regarded as one of the best young prospects at City having come through their youth ranks.

The 20-year-old scored 12 goals for City's under-21 side last season and he has scored two goals in four appearances this term.

City are thought to be open to the idea of letting Hiwula leave for a spell on loan so that he can get some valuable first-team action under his belt.

Several Championship clubs have been alerted to Hiwula's availability on loan and his suitors are now hoping to take the skilful forward on a temporary basis as they look to bolster their attacking options.
