Magaye Gueye joins Millwall on trial and Fuller set for talks

FORMER Everton winger Magaye Gueye has joined Millwall on trial.

Gueye had one year left on his deal but is now a free agent after leaving Goodison Park by mutual contest after failing to make a league appearance under manager Roberto Martinez.

The Senegalese midfielder scored one goal in 39 appearances for the Toffees in fours years after joining from Strasbourg for £1million in 2010.

The Lions are also set to hold talks with striker Ricardo Fuller next week.

Fuller is flying over into the country on Monday for talks and a possible trial stint.

The 34-year-old, who left Blackpool at the start of the summer, has scored 100 goals in 390 career appearances.

@dpendet: To be fair, Fuller ticks all the right boxes for a typical Millwall forward of recent years - big, past his best with about 2-goals a season in him.

Personally I think this is a scare story so that we're pleased with whoever else we get in.

Fuller?! So we now going from an up and coming young prospect in Smith to wash up veteran Fuller. How utterly depressing! That's a Lomas signing if ever I saw one. Coming in for one final pay check to lumber around disinterest on the pitch. He was an excellent player six seasons ago when he was with Stoke and helped them get promoted out of this division but no please, not now. It seems Ollie is getting desperate and we already going for the signings that no one else wants. Rubbish.

I'm sick and tired of having aging journeymen, many of whom have little care for our club and often turn into wage thieves. I cant see Mr Fuller being much different...... as for the other bloke, ive no idea.

    I agree in part.
But among the dirt are some nuggets of gold.
    Carlos Edwards is one.
Steve Claridge was another 'oldie but goldie'.
BUT there is higher risk at this age range than younger...and we took more than our fair share of old timers last season and before that under KJ.
    In IH I trust.
I will let him make the call.

Don't fancy Fuller. He didn't exactly set the world alight at Blackpool last season! Gueye on the other hand i saw play for Everton at Aston Villa and thought he looked a really useful player! Quick, strong, skillful and a great crosser! Him on one wing and either Woolford, Martin or the PSG kid on the other wing and i think we'll be a very dangerous team

@Adsy77777: Magaye looks like another one who has had a Shittu diet. 1 goal in 39 games is even worse than Lee Martin, and yet another player who has only averaged 10 games a season. As for Fuller as the above posts have pointed out another 34 year old journey man, ffs if these are the names at the top of Ollies list god knows what we are going to end up with. Marquis looks the best bet so far.

If we are left with signing 34+ players I would rather not bother and have a 17 year old play poo for peanuts than play poo for £15k a week.
There is possibly the fact that we have been linked with a few older strikers in the last few weeks makes me think that Ollie is definitely going to bring a few youngsters through that he wants them to learn from someone like Fuller/Zamora who has been in the top flight and knows the modern game.

Fuller would be a awful signing, so lazy and lathargic.. willing to give this gueye a chance at least although i bet he thinks hes to good for us. I would rather crouch or zamora and pay more than fuller. Smith would be a good signing but i don't think leeds will sell him to us. Need to have a good search in league 1, chris taylor was a gem find need to find a good hold up player on the cheap.. good work ethic and bring our flair players into the game aswell as notching a couple of goals

Gueye's an interesting one, never really given a chance to show what he can do at Everton, but was a good young prospect. Former French U-21, and cost Everton £1million from Strasbourg.
Reminds me a bit of Steven Reid, having started out as a young Striker, but developed into a solid Winger, fullback and even center midfield.

Alternatively, could very well be the next Samy-Oyame Mawene, Zoumana Bakayogo or Dany N'Guessan.

Fuller wouldn't be my choice at all, but I guess it makes sense the way Ollie is approaching it.
We are only bringing him in for "Talks about a Trial", it is a free look to see if he can still play, if he still wants to play... and if he wants to play for Millwall at the right price.

As far as I know, we have made enquiries/offers about Chris O'Grady, Matt Smith, Bobby Zamora and James Hanson already, but there will be significant costs involved and discussion are ongoing. We are onto our 5th choice target for a Plan B/target man, not including loan options.
My suspicion is Ollie wants to see what Fuller has to offer before he decides if/how hard he wants to pursue those other options.

We also NEED a big man in training sessions to asses the potential of our wingers, center backs, 'keepers and even Gregory/McDonald.
I'd think Byron Webster would gain more by marking Fuller from set pieces than say.... Marquis.

Gueye looks decent, there is actually some good footage of his best bits for Everton unlike this PSG guy. Plus, at 24, he's still young enough to improve if he signs. Fuller can jog on! That for me is like when we signed Rob Hulse… besides, what did he even do for Charlton whilst he was there? Complete shock hearing that. Holloway surprised me with that one, surely he must see his best years are well behind him. Lets try for Matt Smith more importantly, or someone of similar age/goal scoring record

Fuller loves a red card. He is the sort of player that you could do without facing when on the opposing side but not one who will push us up towards the right end of the table.

Gueye seems a bit injury prone and I am surprised that we would be able to afford his wages even if he does impress. The less said about Fuller the better. IH does seems to contradict himself at times. He clearly stated that we had too many senior players in the squad and yet he is now considering signing a 34 year old. He also said he was looking for young players who the club could sell on and not one of his signings so far fall into that category. Gregory might turn out to be another Morison but even then I bet Halifax have negotiated a sell on fee as part of the transfer deal.

So haven't been on for a while as we have had a break in seasons.....

So have had a good catch up through all the off season updates on here. Some good signings so far but am with the rest of you on this latest couple of names.
    Z man (no thanks) ....
Fuller (if IH wants a 33 year old lazy overweight centre forward for 10k a week then I will dust of my boots fly back to the UK and be at the training ground on Monday morning)....i'll even do everyone a favour and drop the wage demand to 1k a week....at least then you will get what you pay for.

I think the highlights reel showed some good stuff of this Everton player BUT highlight reels only show the best stuff....so IH has to see something he thinks he can work for.

My pick would be the one that is going to be the hardest to sign...The leeds player...One he might not one to move to London.....and one Leeds wont sell him to us.... (maybe the new nutter in charge will) as he is a fruit loop...

Question...did we sign this ex Chelsea guy coming out of retirement......???

Also, had a look at one website with the odd's for next season. They have us as favourites to go down....(above the clubs that got promoted).I found 100/1 for us to be champions, 55/1 for us to get promoted....to me that a better bet then us at 5/1 to get relegated.... going to put a checky bet on us to get promoted.....55/1 is to good to turn down........and you know I think we might actually have a chance.... come one IH, come on wall. BRING ON LEEDS for the first game of the season

@colin66: I agree but as you say we are a side with little money and as such it is very important how we spend that money. We do not have a very good record as a club of getting value for money. I am not blaming Ollie but I don't want him to follow the mistakes of the past with more turkeys. The various You Tube clips can look impressive but that could have been when they were in a brief vein of form, if they were any good now they would not be released and wanting to come to us. As someone posted you could put a couple of clips together of Dunny and he would look good. I bet even Rob Hulse could look good on You Tube. Please Ollie no more expensive has beens or sicknotes this club just can't afford them.

Olly likes to invite these players for a "free" trial.
Nothing wrong with that, If he don't like what he see's, and they are big and fat with no chance
that they will ditch the pies, they will be on their bike,

Plenty of managers around who just waste clubs money and buy before try.
Seems a good tactic to me.
The likes of Agent Fat Sam and Hound Dog 'arry could do with taking leaf out of olly's book.

Fuller is not getting many millwall Christmas cards then ...
Gonna try and put a positive spin on fuller,
    His very strong 1 v 1
he has a bit of pace also consider his going to be a last half hour man to change systems or slow the clock down, his got a bit of skill with his feet -honest
Charlton and Blackpool at the time he played for them were very upsetted on and off the pitch behide the sense, (player power? Chairman) I'm not sure .
he started last season really well under ince they were top and some wanted Alex Rae on as manager,
Cv for Stoke was impressive considering the football they played under pulis who we wanted . His played in Europe, his been promoted, and regular in the premiership season.
    Move on to Matt smith
His not long come from non league, played for Oldham who really struggled but were very dis jointed but had a good cup run, joint Leeds under McDermott who football is a bit irractic at times ? But he got a really good presents about him and has a great nut on him, may be lacking a bit of mobility ? He reminds me of a Kevin Davies just taller, but McCormack was top class next to him, not to take any credit away from him, what would be a consern is the amount of time big lads take to get fit if they take a knock, and millwalls injury record, might only get a few 100% games out of him

@Bush: good effort Bush, but I saw Fuller play against us and he was pony, although we let him have an easy goal away at Blackpool. That's his most recent history and that is what counts. The lad from Leeds looks good though, liked what I saw of him at Oldham, young enough an hungry to make a career. The trick will be convincing Leeds to let him go for a reasonable price.

Quote from Ollie on official site at new Club shop opening-
"I need you to encourage them every time they pull on a Millwall shirt. I need you to trust me when I bring players into this club and not to judge them because of who they may have played for in the past, but to let them show what they can do for us".

    Food for thought?

@NICKOLA: At first I thought what Olly said was maybe in regards to bringing in someone like Fuller which he knew fans would question given everything he has said about giving youth a chance and recruiting younger players BUT the bit where he says "not to judge them because of who they may of played for in the past" has me thinking a deal maybe close for Zamora. Just speculating though.

Carlton cole was declared unfit by Fat Sam and only offered him a contract once he proved he was fit to fat Sam approval that took months,
Not only is his goal scoring record not very impressive, but I must highlight the fact He made Allegations that millwall fans racially abused him which was found untrue making it unforgiving for him to ever join are club.

I was hoping that we are going forward, in seeing the post on here we're going backward, we don't need overweight oldies, Youngsters who want to play and win every week, the oldies that are here need to groom the youngsters into better players for us supporters to get behind and gain wins to push us up the league.
Please WALL learn from last seasons horrendous times.

All these stories about triallists are frightening the life out of me, on paper our squad is weaker than last year, have a think about it, a 35 year old keeper, a 35 year old full back, dunne and beevers in the middle, no front man who can hold the ball up and an unproven conference striker, im not being deliberately pessimistic but we need major surgery, and that isnt a 35 year old striker who charlton didnt want or rejects who have played 2 games a year, i know quality doesnt come cheap but olly need to strike a balance somehow, much easier said than done

@thecolumbusblock: columbus i am worried about the likes of fuller coming to millwall, and as you say quality does not come cheap, but where is the money to buy quality coming from on 10,000 average gates.

@jim1222: totally right jim , this chairman enables us to punch above our weight, the scandal of so many casual supporters is a problem we cant overcome , we need success before the gates increase its chicken and egg .

Up to a week ago I was getting excited about the new season but Magaye Gueye and Jean-Eudes Maurice have put a massive dent in that excitement. I'm chuffed to bits to have Holloway but in come the foreign mercenaries to ruin our proud old club. You can all slate me if you like but there is no heart or soul in any of these clubs full of foreign players.

@Chipplefuddywick: How can you call Gueye a mercenary he has been on evertons books for a number of years. He may be an everton reject, but with our finances who do you and others think we should be looking at. Ronaldo maybe, why not Messi. We as fans of a club with 10,000 gates have to front up and accept we cannot be to choosy about the calibre of player we can go after, so leave ir IH and get behind the club as a hole, whether we agree with the choice of player or not.

@jim1222: As I wrote, i'm happy to be slated but you have missed the point a bit. I wouldn't want Messi or Ronaldo tbh. We all have likes and dislikes and I dislike the way our wealthy football in England is sucked dry by overseas players. If Millwall went the way of Watford and even the anoraks now and put out a team with a foreign core then I may just as well give up and watch the premier league on sky.

@Chipplefuddywick: My post was not meant as a slating, sarcastic maybe but not a slating. The situation is we are in the E U so we have no choice about E U citizens coming over here and playing for english clubs,i like you would love to have a whole team of english or british players, but where are they and at what price when they do come available.

@Jim28: We have one fat player, Shittu, looks like he's out, and some people on trial. How does that mean we are full of fat players?
