Robinson left behind as Millwall boss runs rule over rookies

IAN Holloway has revealed that club captain Paul Robinson is among the senior players left out of Millwall's pre-season training camp in Portugal.

Holloway confirmed last week that David Forde, Carlos Edwards and David Forde would not travel to the Algarve and it has now emerged that Robinson has also stayed at home.

The Lions have taken eight youngsters to the Cascade Resort.

Speaking to the club's official site, Holloway explained his decision to leave behind four of the most experienced members of his squad.

He said: "I know all about them, they are our four most senior players, and what I want to do at this stage is find out more about some of our youngsters."

Holloway added: "The first sessions started at 7.25am this morning and the third one will start at 4pm this afternoon.

"Then after we've eaten we will be sitting down together to do some video analysis and talk about how we're going to play this season.

"That will be the pattern every day except Thursday when they'll get a day off.

"As the week progresses, their rest time between repetitions will decrease to the point where they will only rest for the same period as they have just worked.

"They will be doing plenty of ball work including sessions where, for example, there are 12 players working with four balls which is geared up to getting them to think quicker too."

    He's already said that Shittu and Robinson were not fit enought to go as they are still carrying injuries.
    Edwards has temporary permit problems and Forde had already been granted an extra week with his family. Bit of a non story. On a news front, I hear Hutchinson is joining us.

      @Jim28:
      Carlos Edwards is from Trinidad and Tobago (like my parents)lol
      He has signed a new contract with us after leaving Ipswich so therefore he will probably need a new work permit which is why there maybe complications in sorting out his travel throughout Europe.
      Justin Hoyte is also from Trinidad and Tobago but they are like chalk and cheese as players when it comes to commitment and professionalism.
      Most Millwall fans are glad we've got Carlos whereas we all feel that Justin can do one.
      Ollie has given him a second chance, so I'm waiting for Justin Hoyte to prove us all wrong!

        @MillwallGra: I just can't get my head round Hoyte, the boy had loads of talent and has frittered it away. Makes you wonder if he needs a shrink more than a fitness coach.

          @glyngo:
          Neither can I, he doesn't need a shrink he needs to either commit to the club 110% or jog on.
          I hope that Ollie can knock some sense into him during the training camp otherwise he needs to get rid of him nuff said.

    One thing about this news is I believe beavers is staying or surely they wouldn't of taken him to Portugal.

      @mfcmike: Good thinking. Ollie's comment that Webster hasn't been signed to replace the existing centre halves troubles me somewhat. If Beevers starts then surely Webster must play along side him as a recognised centre half as opposed to Dunne who is a right back ffs. Robinson looks like he's still struggling with injuries and as for Shittu, well don't get me started on him.

        @NICKOLA: that's to keep Webster on his toes. Better than saying 'you're guaranteed to start' he has to earn it same as the rest

      @mfcmike: Another thing that needs to be considered, is if we do play 3 at the back will he need to have 2 spaces on the bench for CB's? Or would IH just change the formation again? CB's get injured a fair bit and will deifnitely pick up a lot of yellow cards too. so leaving (for example) Dunne on the pitch when he's on a yellow is only going to end in tears! Also, Shittu and Robinson are nearing retirement so I'm sure Beevers will stay...(hopefully)
      Beevers
      Dunne
      Webster

      Robinson
      Shittu
      Goodman

    Just heard that Gary Alexander has announced his retirement. He was a top man and so glad he wore that Lion on his shirt and still one of the best goals ever scored at Wembley!
    Good luck for the future mate.

    I am not happy with the way Ollie is treating Robbo. Show some respect for the man who has spilt blood for this club as man and boy.
