Millwall midfielder Lee Martin secures a new two-year-deal

LEE Martin has committed his future to Millwall after the winger signed a new deal with the club.

Martin signed a one-year contract last season and that deal was set to expire at the end of June, but the former Ipswich man has put pen-to-paper on a new two-year-deal.

Millwall's eight game unbeaten run at the end of last season coincided with  Martin's best spell in a Lions shirt, scoring in the 2-1 win at Nottingham Forest and setting up two goals in the 2-0 win away to Middlesbrough.

And Martin told the club's official site: "I knew as soon as Ian Holloway came here that we would be moving in the right direction and he is certainly the manager who can get the best out of me."

Glad he's signed and two years seems a sensible contract length to offer him as well.

Not over-the-moon that he has signed. Yes he had a good end to the season but does 1 goal and a few assists warrant a good season and another deal? Better out there but I guess he's cheap. Good squad player. Would have preferred for us to have gone for Kazenga LuaLua - real pace and always does well against us.

@harryfabian: I think it's good that we're keeping a bit of consistency and not adding a whole host of new names to the squad. Look where that got us last year. It's not also good for morale to add a load of new names in. Martin played a good part in us staying up so I'm glad he's resigned. LuaLua has a year to run on his contract too.

@terry the turk lion: So having a few good games, out of 46, is enough? Why wasn't he doing it at the start? We're all entitled to our own opinions mate but maybe I'm out of line for wanting a better player?!

Martin obviously fits the bill as far as Ollie is concerned and that's good enough for me. Also with Gregory signing I think it's been one of our better days.

Ollie saw enough in him to wanna keep him and he certainly was a better player under Holloway.
If he carries on where he left off will be like having a new player...

    Well done Ollie

we need to be realistic with Martin - if he can start half the matches and put in 20 good shifts then that is okay - we have Fred who can start 10 matches or so - it is about managing the squad so that whoever plays is fit and sharp - quality not quantity - we all know there are lots of results possible in this league and we need some players with extra quality to add to those who do the hard yards

Looks like the cards starting to fall in our favour, good solid signings and Ollie gettin a lot of what he wants to start framing up a decent squad. Hope we get off to a flyer! Could it be that the big man 6 ft 75 hoffenfarter will be knocking on the den door to be let back in??? Or maybe Ollie going to the next stage of development!

@frank: yeh, I was expecting him to get a gig with someone at the World Cup but alas, No joy! But seriously, Sort of hope the doors not completely closed, a fit big man in body and mind would cause some grief for opposition defenders and give us some options up forward.

@HARRY FABIAN: yeah Harry, you are entitled to your opinion, so you know better than our manager eh, and you prove it by suggesting we go for a player who never starts for his club, and using your logic has a few decent sub appearances against us, and does nothing when he doesn't have the ball unlike Martin who works hard up and down

I think what's interesting is that Edwards, Forde and Martin have all wanted to sign. I know there will have been lots of factors in those players' decisions but a strong cohesion in the dressing room and a desire to play for IH clearly will have come into their thinking, and I think that in itself bodes well. Similarly it looks like he's sold himself and the club to Lee Gregory and also to Byron Webster - all very encouraging. But I'm realistic - we've got some decent players but the Championship has some top notch players at rich clubs. Obviously we've got to look at Burnley for our inspiration in terms of what can be done with a modest squad when they're cohesive (and when they avoid injuries like Burnley did).Oh, and two free-scoring strikers didn't hurt for them either.

      @waterloolion:

I agree with this - good post.

Lions need to get people fit and keep them fit. What a difference when Bailey came back. Surely Chaplow has a role to play - with him fit it would be like another signing.

Interesting comment by Lee Martin on Lions Player "I wasn't fit when Ollie came here..."

Scary - what was going on?

Doesn't matter now - the L word doesn't get mentions here now ...

New season, new team, new manager, new hope.

      COYL!

Martin is a good player I can see he will grow and improve with Holloway, so i am glad he has signed.

But make no mistake.... These guys Martin and Forde held out with their fingers crossed for better offers from other clubs..... Guess what boys???? Nobody was interested apart from good old Millwall, so next season you need to inspire the rest of the squad and fight for our shirt not just a new deal.

    COYL!!!!
