Millwall seal the signing of Halifax Town striker Lee Gregory

LEE Gregory has been confirmed as a Millwall player after finalising a £250,000-move to The Den.

NewsAtDen exclusively revealed on Friday that the Lions were in pole position to sign the 25-year-old after agreeing a fee with Halifax Town for the striker.

Gregory travelled to south London on Monday to thrash out personal terms with Ian Holloway and chief executive Andy Ambler.

The 25-year-old has agreed a three-year-deal with the club.

Millwall had seen three offers rejected for the forward before they were given permission to talk to him over the weekend.

The part-time electrician scored 30 goals in the Conference last season, prompting a flurry of bids from Football League clubs.

But after agreeing a fee with Halifax, Millwall have moved quickly to convince Gregory that his future lies in SE16.

Ex-Yeovil Town defender Byron Webster, who is on holiday in Mexico until Wednesday, is also poised to put pen-to-paper at The Den.

Great News and Good Luck Lee Gregory for the coming season!!

I'd love to see 1 more Striker, 1 or 2 quick wingers and maybe a strong midfielder like Bailey (in case he gets injured) then we will be looking pretty good for the season! COYL

@Bradders: Agree about another striker. With Morison and Lurch gone we need a Big target man who hopefully can score a few.

@Longfield Lion: Definitely, although with Ollie saying Marquis is staying he could be given a chance to be the Target Man (as he doesn't really score many goals) which I'm all for as there aren't many good target men around these days.

We need some quick wingers who can actually go past players and deliver a decent cross, especially if Lee Martin doesn't sign his new offer!

Another good bit of business. Play Fred along side him & Martin on the other side. Looking good. But we still need more signings.

Good news! Obviously no guarantees when a player steps up 3 divisions but there have been plenty of precedents for non-league strikers making the grade (including Bomber and Moro of course).
But as far as midfield is concerned, I reckon we have a lot of strength there. Bailey was tremendous at the end of last season and looked like the player he had promised to be in his first few games - let's hope he stays fit. And in Williams we have a midfielder with real class and poise, and Upson provides a goal-scoring threat and no little skill on the ball. Ok, we don't have a lot of cover, unless Chaplow gets fit and some form back. Other than that Jimmy is I feel a much better player than some people give him credit for, and even Wright, who I'd agree has flattered to deceive, could still develop under IH's guidance.
I would agree with other comments that a pacey winger wouldn't go amiss, but Martin and Woolly aren't bad players either!

@waterloolion: Great news. He'll probably need a bit of time to get used to the step-up, but it seems like he's got plenty of potential, which is just the sort of player we should be investing in.

30 goals in the conference has no bearing in the championship. Lomas managed a pub team in europe, plenty of experience, yeh right! Having said that morison and harris stepped up. Fingers crossed.

@wallchef: Wallchef i hope the lad hits the ground running and scores goals from the off,if not we have to give him time to adapt to a higher league, from his video clips he seems to be in the right areas to latch on to chances, and we know he will get less space in the championship,so as you say fingers crossed but most of all give the boy time.

@wallchef: If he can manage a return of a third of what he got last year , to take into account that he will be up against better players, quicker players and more organised sides and if he can get 10 goals he would have scored more than any one player last term.

He must be well worth a punt at that money, and if Ollie is a good a coach as he thinks he is then no worries job done at least in seems we are doing the right things getting people who he wants to bring to the Den early so he has time to work with them before it all kicks off once more.

Things are definitely moving in the right direction, hopefully a couple more signings to come. I think Gregory could turn out to be a good goalscorer for us, although he may take a bit of time to settle and supporters may need to be a little patient.

Very happy with this signing. I know other clubs were interested and I believe the Holloway factor has struck again.
    Welcome to Millwall.
Scoring goals for the most unique and passionate fans going. You lucky boy. Good luck.

Great news. Seen a lot of comments from Halifax fans on Twitter and other forums and the common phrases about Lee are 'gifted' and 'grafter', right up our street! When you think about it, in less than 6 months IH has not only steered us away from League One but also managed to start building a team the way it should be built: carefully and with a real backbone, rather than just stockpiling anyone and everyone who wants to join us. Players like Williams, Upson, now Gregory and (hopefully Webster) all look like hungry young players who want to learn the game and have come to The Den not just to collect their wages but to further their careers and genuinely do well for the club and fans. I don't want to tempt fate, but they could all end up being the kind of Millwall players that we have been crying out for. Add to that Forde signing up and Edwards on board with his experience and refreshing attitude and I don't think you can blame us for being cautiously optimistic about next season. If Martin doesn't sign up now he needs to give his head a wobble, because if he decides to go elsewhere you can bet your life there'll be someone else on Ollie's radar who will be only too glad to come in. Following Millwall has taught us that big money, high profile signings very rarely work out, but assemble a squad with a manager who all understand what Millwall is all about and anything is possible.

A great signing in my mind but we have to be patient with him. If he hits the ground running then great but remember Moro took 10-15 games in league one to start scoring.

Need to get Martin to sign then another striker I'd love to see aiden O'Brien given a chance then Fred off the front two that's his best position I think.

But looking at it at the moment I think my starting line up would be

    Forde
    Malone
    Beeves
    Webster
    Dunne/edwards
    Wooly
    Williams
    Upson
    Martin/Fred
    Gregory
    Easter/O'Brien

@Bradders: I am happy with all this it looks like a proper investment In the team. Just need a ballistic right winger now and a target man when teams play deep. We are not far off , no big stars just players that want to be here. Bring it on!

Lee Martin follows David Forde in agreeing a new contract at Millwall this summer, and with the addition to the squad of Carlos Edwards and Lee Gregory already, things are beginning to take shape nicely ahead of pre-season training next week.
