Exclusive: Millwall lead Gregory race after bid is accepted

MILLWALL have been given the green light to discuss personal terms with Lee Gregory after Halifax Town accepted their fourth bid for the striker.

Having failed with three separate offers, the Lions finally agreed a deal with the Conference club, worth around £250,000, for the 25-year-old on Friday morning.

Gregory will now hold talks with manager Ian Holloway about a move to The Den.

NewsAtDen understands that Millwall are the first club to be granted permission to speak to the forward but two rival bidders are close to meeting Halifax's asking price.

      @TheBermondseyBomber:
      Halifax Town fan Here -
This guy Gregory is a fantastic player.
He is deceptively quick and can score inside the box, outside the box and with his head.
For 250,000 he is an absolute bargain.
The conference now is a good league with most team beings full time and of a good standard.
If he signs for you I am having 20 quid on you for promotion because he will score 20 goals for you
      next season.

was always certain that if we wanted to sign him, that Holloway would get him.

Could be an exciting no. 9!

If by chance he does decide to sign for us Ollie, make sure we wear blue for the home kit, white for away and changed the third strip to red, 'cause judging the goals scored in the video we could have a winner.

    COYL..................

@mickyspring: Not sure. There were a few crackers on the video but the majority of his goals were the product of crappy goalkeeping or shoddy defending. I just hope that if we do get him, he doesn't spend the entire season getting schooled by Championship defenders.

Blimey! Some of the goals on that video are crackers. Granted, some of that defending is shocking but it looks like he can score from inside and outside the box and with his head. Could be an awesome signing.

Fee is not the issue with regards to other clubs that are sniffing around, it's the higher wages they will offer that will turn his head. We need to get if done before they get the chance. Let's be fair/realistic here, the bloke is 25 and has missed out on a large chunk of his earning potential for an already short career window. If IH can't sew this one up in quick time us agreeing a fee means very little in reality.

@JonnyBanks: It also depend on his ambitions. Would he be content with signing for another club where he might spend most of the season on the bench or come to us where Ollie could almost certainly guarantee that he would ne a first team regular because we are so short of strikers.

If we did manage to sign him my only concern other than the obvious (not playing at the higher level) would be the fact that he is a Northern lad who may struggle to settle off the field in London being 25 and seemingly never playing down South.

Could be a great signing long way to go. One thing in our favour is we give him regular first team. Need two more signings another striker and a wide player assuming Martin and the Yeovil player sign.

@Bassett: yes - but I would say if Martin signs more of a playmaker midfielder needed than another wide man - someone with composure who can lay on a pass because I am not sure upson and Williams and bailey will - it can't all come from wide - quality through the middle

@timchimes: make you right the midfield needs to be bolstered.cos if we lose bailey through injury we will be seriously weakened..but first we have to sort some strikers out..not seen this blokes goals mainly cos they were against amatuers..lets see if he can get em in our league

First lets see if we get him and secondly if we do get him please give him a chance its a big step up from non league to championship and I do believe he will give some defenders nightmares. He is the sort of player we need someone who can get on the end of lose balls and have a crack from outside the box,If we don't get him fair enough next one please

Some good finishes in the video but he won't get it as easy vs Championship defenders. 250k for a 25yo from non-league is a punt by Holloway and at least we'll have an expert on hand for any floodlight failures. Best of luck to him if he signs.

We're shopping in Poundland. That means we need to get lucky. Scoring goals in the Conference is one thing; scoring them in the Championship something else all together. Morison was good in the Conference, OK in League 1, struggles in Championship and was hopeless in Premiership. This guy is 25 and has had ONE good season. let's not get carried away.

@Glasshalffull: You think Morison struggled in the Championship and was hopeless in the the Premier League? Morison scored 15 goals in the Championship and scored 10 goals in his first Premier League season with Norwich.

@Jim28: I notice many in the England squad (average wage £150.000 pw) are using schemes to evade paying their taxes. Rooney for instance is reported to have saved £600,000 by doing so and Gareth Barry £135,000
"The scale of tax avoidance in football has become so great that HM Revenue & Customs is demanding a payment of £100m from clubs on behalf of their players. "

They play for England but avoid paying the taxes you and me have to pay.

Just about to watch England, but I had to say that we shouldn't get too excited about this bloke, cos I can imagine the stick he will get if he doesn't score in the first 10 games, and that could happen.
