Exclusive: Millwall snub Rotherham bid for defender Beevers

MILLWALL have turned down a bid from Rotherham United for Mark Beevers.

The 24-year-old, who is from Yorkshire, was a key performer as Ian Holloway's side went unbeaten in their final eight games to avoid relegation last season.

Newly-promoted Rotherham have earmarked the defender as a potential new recruit as they prepare to compete in the Championship after a ten year absence.

Beevers, who made 30 appearances last season, has a year left to run on his contract.

NewsAtDen understands the Millers made an approach last week and tabled an offer of just £100,000 – less than half of what the Lions paid for the centre back.

£100K is laughable, bet they come back with a more serious offer. Now Lowry is gone, we need to keep Beevers, as I don't want to rely too heavily on Shittu this season and poor old Robbo hasn't really recovered from his injury. Fingers crossed he can, but time is ticking.

Make our £100,000 plus bid for non league Gregory looks like it was to much! Rotherham really are a bunch of jokers!

@Kennyp: I could think of a few words worse than ''cheeky buggers''. Not too sure what their way of thinking is apart from the fact that he comes from Yorkshire? An offer of a 100grand with a year left on his contract and played a crucial part in keeping us up is quite bizarre. If we’re thinking of paying in the region of 250,000 for a non-league player we’d be mad to let him go for anything less 350,000 - perhaps, even a lot more. Unless he wants to leave, we should be telling the likes of poxy Rotherham to eff off!

@REAL Supporter: Spot on. Surely he's got to be worth at least 500k at the very least. I really hope he doesn't want to leave I think he's a good player.

Agree with this. F*** knows where Rotherham got their valuation from. Utter p***-take imo.

A club will sound out a players agent to see if they are wasting their time so I feel that he may want the move.
He only has a year left and therefore if he wont commit the club should not in my opinion let contracts run out and get nothing at the end. He is 24 years old and worth at least half a million in my book. I really like him but I am now worried that the club might sell while they can and will look at using the money for the targeted summer signings. 100k is seriously taking the p*** though. I think he will leave us for around 350k. Hope I'm wrong.

@wall2wall: Its a good way to get your club to offer a better deal as well, if he only has a year he may well be playing for an extension.

Absolute p*** take. And even at £350K, who are you going to get to replace him. No idea why he would want to leave as he is a permanent fixture, unless of the lure to go back to the scummiest county in UK is too big a temptation. Rotherham has got to be one of the worst places I have ever been, a complete s*** hole.

Is there any playerin the world that would rather go play up that rancid hole and for fatty Steve Evans than stay in the capital playing under the one and only Ian Holloway???? Can't see it at all.... Rotherham have heard we're going for Webster on a free and are chancing their arm - they're clearly skint!!

Beevers has still got 2 years left on his contract not 1. Expires 2016. His initial contract was signed for 3 1/2 years. Not going anywhere for £100k cheeky c*nts.

its got to be his agent putting this about, i dont think rotherham would come out with a 2 bob offer, makes them look stupid or does beevers want to go back up north, if he does then we know why ollie has gone for webster.

Beevers is one of the few people who could help Gregory (if Lions get him) to settle in and translate the sarfeast London lingo into broad Yorkshire.

@Peckhamlad: The man was a legend at the Den. I remember being on the terraces at the old den and Alf going up for cross in the goal mouth and diving over the wall onto the terraces, coming back covered in blood and playing on as if nothing had happened. good luck Alf.

@anorak_hater_COYL: Unfortunately they don't make them like him anymore. Went in where it hurts, hard as nails and certainly knew where the net was, could certainly do with him now. Best wishes to him and his family. It may be an overused phrase these days but Alf truely is a Millwall legend.

Why are we letting promising, young talents run their contracts down to a year? This is where smart clubs with a few bob tap the agents up and offer big wages to run their contracts down.

@JonnyBanks: Also, I have said this many times before, we let our players go for next to nothing compared to the likes of CPFC, whenever they sell anybody of note its large/massive money. Beevers would be priced at 1M plus if they had him. I don't know why, maybe I am missing a trick or being a div but historically we seem to always be 2 steps behind????

apart from his goal's and bravery, the one thing i remember about alf wood was he was back defending at the cold blow lane end,and he cleared a ball with a full blooded belt into the crowd, the ball hit some poor sod in the crowd, knocking his glasses flying and flattening the fan, from the look on his face i could see alf was upset about hurting the poor guy and for the rest of the game kept looking over to where the hurt fan was.
