Millwall make Scotland trip to check on midfielder Newton

EX-Newcastle midfielder Conor Newton is on Millwall's summer shopping list.

Lions head of recruitment Mick Harford made a flying visit to Scotland last weekend to see the 22-year-old in action for loan club St Mirren.

Newton has recently negotiated a free transfer from St James' Park and held talks with Harford after he scored in a 1-1 draw with Hearts.

A source close to Newton said: "Ian Holloway wants young, hungry players to buy into his philosophy. He wants to build a team that can grow together.

"For that reason, Conor loves the idea of Millwall."

Wolves, Rotherham and Sheffield Wednesday are also interested.

Not normally keen on players in the Scottish division, but watching the video, he looks hungry and aggressive for the ball, looks up when he passes, good off the ball movement and has got a powerful shot. Looks good to me!!!

@Geoff the lion: Remember seeing a similar video of Scott McDonald scoring a superb goal for Celtic prior to us buying him. One goal does not make him a star. Do we know why was he on loan? Or why is he on a free transfer?

@REAL Supporter: very true words mate, one goal doesnt make him a super star. it wasnt so much the goal he scored that impressed me, it was the way he moved himself round the pitch, always looking for a space to recieve a pass. at least he isnt lazy which in my book is a big plus. not sure why he was on loan, but would imagine at 21 years old, doesnt have the experience fore the premiership yet

our midfield is young anyway but another one is ok as long as we utilise them all rather than then sat on a bench. williams, upson, fred, martin, wright, bailey, jimmy ,chaplow, woolford sp we are ok in the midfield dept

Exactly the sort of players we should be looking at. Hungry to succeed and probably on low wages.

    Cracking goal on the vid!

Good, get him in. He's interested and looks like he's got bags of potential. I assume if he comes, that's the end for Abdou.
