SEVEN Millwall youngsters have signed professional contracts.

The Lions have agreed terms with Sid Nelson, Ben Thompson, Keaton Wood, Denzel Gerrar, Jake Goodman, Jack Powell (pictured) and Josh Siafa, who will all join the senior ranks.

Millwall have also signed youngster Dylan Casey from Leicester City.

Manager Ian Holloway said: "I've got to find a younger balance in the first team and I think we have already got some young players at the club who can come into the group."

Great to be getting back to focus on youth and bringing through young players. Something we've been seriously lacking for the past decade.

@horseworrier: I could not agree more HW. Why not give him a good long stint from the get go next season, he is bound to have blips at his age but let him ride them out regardless. Otherwise we will end up mugging it like we did with Samba, Hearn, Ashikodi etc by being too cautious

The nucleus of any half decent Millwall squad is, has, & will always be, youth. Thank god the club have finally realised this! Good luck cubs, give us your all & we will have your back.

Who was our last stand out product of the youth team? Since the Cahill, Reid, Ifill era I can't think of one that stands out?? Am I missing somebody obvious chaps??

I think that we really need to make sure we give these youngsters a good chance next year. As JB has said we have not produced a great youngster since the Cahill era. Ollie has stressed this to the board that this is something he wishes and will develop. I hope all the fans can get behind him.
Young fred needs to be given a chance from the off next season as he is such a bright prospect for the club and not someone if successful just sell for a minimal fee. Lets do what Palace did with Zaha and make a huge profits from our home grown talent.
Jake Goodman has made it clear he is a millwall fan and cannot wait to do his bit for the club. Now he has played over 60 league games he surely is ready for the challenge.
As for the other youngsters, they still need time developing, but that doesn't mean we can't slowly implement them into the squad with bit parts next season.
    COYL!!!!!!!!!

@kentlion: We have always had a terrible habit of selling quality, young and at times top level players for shockingly low fees. Sheringham, Jimmy Carter and Cascarino were in a different era with regards to the money in game at the time, but the likes of Chris Armstrong, Mark Kennedy, Ben Thatcher, Lucas Neill, Kasey Keller, Steven Reid, Paul Ifill, Tim Cahill, even Steve Morison to a point were sold for far less than the likes of Palace manage to get for players of similar ilk. The Cahill fee we accepted in the end was ridonkulous for a young player of his class and the fact we could have got double a year earlier was criminal on the Gordon Brown selling our gold on the cheap levels.

Mostly agree..the cahill saga was badly handled & then tim was blamed why we didn't get a replacement...tim was lined up for 2 million move to palace the 11th hour cahil pulled out saying he couldn't do that to mfc fans..then moyes got him..then said in october he would have paid 6000,000 ...nice to see you out of a job

@Jim28: But the year before he was set for a 3.5m to villa and we ballsed it up. Tom goes down in history as a loyal legend..... We mugged it up as tend to do.

This is good news but we as fans need to be patient with these youngsters when they start coming through and playing for the first team.
Next season should be a building season with a mid table finish.
The season after should be the big push for promotion.

Millwall supporters on the day expect the same level of performance from the whole team. Saying you should be more patient towards younger players wont happen..didn't bother cahil kennedy o'callagan & steven ried they didn't turn out to bad

@frank: The fee they got for Zaha was a master stroke for me. They did it with Moses too in recent times, they will do it again soon with William's I am sure. Yes they do operate on a slightly higher level budget wise seeing as P Goddard is still our record signing at 800k but they do better business than we do selling.

This isa quote: .olly will mix the team with youth & experienced players..expect to see o'brien & fred next season

Brilliant stuff, the future could be bright if these lads are blooded next season. For a club of our size and JB running out of his own hard earned, this is the way forward for Millwall. Lets hope theres another legend or two among them. In Ollie We Trust.

Less overpaid, under performing, career twilight players and more raw youth please. If we don't play any kids why would any decent youth player come to our academy? Fred looked better than most of the senior pros.

Great to see some youngsters get given a chance as they will be playing to prove their worth. Unlike some of the s*** loan players we've had over the years, purely after the money.

Even if these lads don't end up being good enough no doubt they will try hard and they will be on low wages. Definitely the correct route for the club to take.

Talking about youth prospects. I think our U13's won the National Championships. Not sure what the format was I.E. League or Cup. Whatever it was its a good sign for the future. Scott Fitzgerald and Brian Dunn are doing a brilliant job. well done boys......

Good news of they are good enough to bolster an already strong squad but not so good if this means fewer signings during close season and over reliance on these youngsters at Championship level. Best of luck to all of them and I hope that they are not getting the same kind of abuse that John Marquis gets on here, in a few months time.
