Millwall manager: Maierhofer chasing Premier League move

©

IAN Holloway says Millwall are unlikely to re-sign Stefan Maierhofer – because the striker is holding out for a move to the Premier League.

The Lions had approached the Austrian about extending his short-term deal with the club but he is looking for a significant increase to his weekly wage.

Holloway believes there is currently "no point" discussing a new contract with the 31-year-old given that he wants to join a side in the top flight.

"I hope he gets what he thinks he's going to get, which is a Premier League team," Holloway said.

"He thinks that a club of that ilk might want him. You never know – he might end up getting a squad http://vhealthportal.com position at a club like that because he's 6ft 8in and he can head the ball sometimes.

"In the past, he was bought for £1.8million but in a funny way there was also a reason why he didn't have a club for seven months before we took him.

"He was one that I was going to talk to but there's just no point talking to him if that's what his expectations are. Stefan gave us a huge aerial advantage at times and we needed it.

"I needed a big man, I got one and he did really well for us, so I would be silly if I didn't ask where he is and what he's thinking about."

@Longfield Lion: He does not say which preimership he is looking to play in, could be the Scottish one, Hoff we like you but get real mate if Ollie wants to sign you bite his hand off if he offered you a contract mate. Get fully fit and show us what you can do when you are match fit.
If not good luck to you where ever you end up plying your trade.

I think he will be lucky to find a Premier League club who will sign him. He is a Championship level player at the most and while he was the big target man we wanted he wasn't that good in the air for his height and should have scored more goals. However, we will have to look for a similar type player for next season because all we have at the moment is Easter,,McDonald and Marquis.

@denslions: I forgot we're just left with those three up front. I reckon we extended Marquis's contract purely so we might get a fee for him off a lower-league club next season. I don't think Ollie rates McDonald that much (especially not as a goal-scorer!) and Easter is always going to be a squad player at best.

So it seems like we'll be looking to bring in at least two first-choice forwards in the summer. I haven't heard much about Morison maybe coming back?

Clearly very much has his heads in the clouds - I think he knows he's just an average Championship player but thinks this approach will make the club value his signature and give him a better deal. Loved the comment from Olly 'He's 6ft 8inches tall and can head the ball sometimes' Sums it up really.

PL ? He is having a laugh, ain't he ?
A full pre-season training and he will be dead on his knees.
Championship just about his level, and he did ok in my opinion.
But he did start spewing up some attitude towards the end of season,
and that only spells trouble in the camp if he is allowed to stay.
No doubt about it, he was a good asset those last few weeks.

Give him a bra and a dress, and let him play for Austria in next years Eurovision song contest.

He has potential to be a decent Championship striker if he shapens his finishing skills, premiership clubs will take one look at that 2 yard miss on the last game of the season..... Silly sod needs to grow some reality beans..... He needs to show form and prove himself..... Millwall was a perfect place to do that next season.......

Hoff.... In the words of Theo....... IM OUT!!!

@JONO: Indeed. That "two yard miss" was when he was already offside, but had no idea he was offside so counts as a real "effort". Perhaps because he was offside it wasn't included in any highlights of the match. Unless anyone has a link? No goal would have counted anyway, only it does count in my opinion as a severe cock up.

On a plus, he was better than Mr. Bob Peeters.

Haha, must have got himself a concussion from when he sometimes headed the ball.

I thank you for the goals you scored but clearly the rumours you have an ego were true and we don't need players like you at the club. You would no doubt prove to be disruptive and frankly you're not that good.

At best you're a Championship squad player, a good impact sub to have. If you want prem action I suggest you get sky sports like I did.

Is this fella for real? Done a job when we needed it but he seems to think he single handedly kept us up while in reality I'd personally credit that more to IH, dunne, Bailey and edwards. Premiership-not even good enough as a squad player in the prem. We can do a lot better and want someone without these ideas of grandeur.

He was absolute cack against Bournemouth and was more of a hindrance than of any use to us. Losing the ball, not running back for it, not making challenges and missing that sitter. He did score those two goals against Middlesborough but Martin put them on a plate for him, he was also unchallenged especially for the second goal. You League One quality big man.

We have had enough of these big time charlie attitudes that infected the team last season, not doing much but expecting the riches and spoils with moves to so called bigger clubs etc. We have managed to thankfully get rid of quite a few of them now and Hof mate you no exception. Thanks for goals but looking back we would of stayed up without those 3 points against Middlesborough, you mercenary.

This is the best news for years instead of the one or two that normally get contracts . They will be the life of this club over the next few years together with others coming along Ollies brave new conveyor. Congratulations must go to the board,Ollie and especially Scott and Bomber for making this happen ....... The futures bright -the futures Ollie

Thanks for your help in keeping us up, but there is something very arrogant you. You'd think being a veteran player, he'd know how to handle his attitude. When he lost his rag when we were only just about in lead against Forest and almost certain to be relegated, causing Holloway to correctly sub him immediately to prevent a sending off, it was clear he was in this all for himself.

Holloway inherited a lot of arrogance and egos so no need to add to it. But thanks for his contribution nonetheless.

At the end of a season of misery & depression this is a shining light. The Hoff, in the Premiershite! What is he on?! A half decent back-to-goal striker with the leaping ability of Oscar Pistorious (minus the blades) & a nose for goal similar to Uwe Fuchs. Good luck seeking that million dollar contract Hoff but IMHO you'll be back in red speedos before your going up against the likes of Kompany & co.

Modern day footballer summed up in a nutshell. Minimal effort, average talent, maximum ego and wage demands. We don't need the likes of the Hoff and Chris Wood if we want an honest Millwall team.

One things for sure with Holloway, any s**** with players and he lets the world know about it.
No hiding place for the slackers, they have to deal with his ways or get moved on.
Which only leaves you with winners who do wanna play for the Lions.
What with youngsters signing pro contracts, updating the scouting system, Olly has got the club attempting to move forward.

Arsenal ladies are a premiership team.
They might fancy a big man.

He's only doing this to try to get higher wages out of club. Would have been good to keep hold of him but club need to call his bluff and look elsewhere.

Literally laughed out loud when I read this. They must be putting something funny in the water in Austria, first Eurovision, now this. I thought that if we went down he might do a job in League One for us, but wasn't even convinced he was worth retaining for next season's Championship. Auf Wiedersehen mate!

Possibly the worst player I have seen at Millwall in the 8 years I have been going can't pass, shoot, run or dribble. CAN NOT WAIT to see the back of him!!!! COYL!!!

@loumfc: that's a bit harsh. You must have missed a lot of the dross we've had wear a wall shirt in the last couple of seasons.

up until now i was in favour of the hoff. his height gave us something in addition, but his fitness was crap. kinda thought if he could get match fit we'd see some goals, but clearly it wasnt just his fitness that was the problem. its the amount of booze he knocks back each day. now im assuming thats what it is, if he thinks his preformance at millwall would get him in the premiership! he should be kissing ollies a*** to have a chance to play for us next season, austrian p****.

    Rule Britannia. Milllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll
