Lowry, Keogh, Smith and Feeney to leave Millwall in summer

MILLWALL have told Shane Lowry, Andy Keogh, Liam Feeney and Jack Smith that their contracts will not be renewed in the summer.

The quartet were informed by boss Ian Holloway that their futures lie away from The Den and that they will become free agents when their deals expire next month.

Simeon Jackson is also unlikely to return to SE16 when his short-term contract runs out.

But the Lions have announced that they hope to retain Lee Martin and David Forde, with the duo set to discuss terms in the near future.

NewsAtDen has been told that talks will also be held with Carlos Edwards.

Stefan Maierhofer and Fede Bessone will now become free agents and Millwall are retaining the right to extend their stays at the club at a later point.

In a club statement, the Lions thanked Lowry, Keogh, Smith and Feeney for their efforts and wished them well in their future careers.

Meanwhile, Liam Trotter, who has been on loan at Bolton, will be joining Dougie Freedman's side permanently, although the deal is yet to be announced.

I think these are all good decisions.
Lowry is quite unreliable when it comes to red cards and is a high wage earner so letting him go isn't as bad as it may seem.
As for the others that were released, pretty self explanatory why Holly released them. Thank you to Smith though who got us into the Championship.
The wage bill is going down which is good to see. I hope the likes of Bessone, Hoyte etc. leave.
Seeing Jackson go isn't that much of a loss in my honest opinion, he didn't exactly set the world light. Same could be said for the Hof. There's definitely better elsewhere.
All this transfer talk... I need to lie down.
    MIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII

@HenryBaird_: I agree to a point. Would like to see big Hof back at the at the next season, but don't see the others as being a loss. Good luck to Jack Smith, who has been a model professional at Millwall and has always done a job when asked. He deserves a club next season with regular football. A pity things haven't worked out for Shane as well, been played at left back far too much, but could never be relied upon to not get a red card, good luck to him as well.

@the ref: Jack Smith lives next door to my pal at work (in the Watford area) and he is very nervous about where JS moves too as he does not want dodgy neighbours.

I am quite surprised at Lowry leaving, I remember when Holloway said how much he liked him. But, you know best Ian. As for the others, no real surprises. Smith wasn't one of the greatest players, but he kept it simple and always gave 100%. Farewell Jack.

Keogh and Feeney started their Millwall careers very well, then faded.
Lowry a red card liability and not a patch on Malone.
Smith a great servant for MFC and very versatile but not a championship player will do well at league one.
    Bessone f***** useless!
Jackson, thought he was gonna do well for MFC, but wasn't that good.
The HOF, would give him contract ( on crap wages) as a squad player!
So well done IH good decisions.

Very disappointed about Lowry leaving. He's young so he's got tons of time to learn about his discipline and what not. When he's on his game, he is just as good as the other centre halves in our team. Really am shocked. The other 3 were never going to get new deals so I'm not surprised. Hope Keogh doesn't get a club.

@SLloyd23: Ipswich about 3 seasons ago we won 4-1 I think and he tore them to shreds. Southampton away in the cup last year, and that's about it. Glad to see the back of him.

Keogh ..good riddance . Lowry..shame but very limited in a total football way, ....Smith good pro but not good enough for the championship. .... I'd go along with Ollie on this.

Jack Smith .... great servant who deserves to be playing games at this stage of his career
Liam Feeney .... was he ever our type of player ?
Shane Lowry .... what went wrong .... should have been our type of player
Andy Keogh .... If only it had worked out ... away to Peterborough he was class but we never saw it often enough but he did at least try....

    good luck to you all

Liam Trotter ... can't wait till you come back to The Den so we can all have a good chuckle.

Thought Lowry had the makings of being a Millwall player for a long time, but obviously something went on there. As for Smith, never let Millwall down IMO but in truth a League 1 player. Happy to see Feeney go too inconsistent, Keogh I think needs to move and Trotter deal all but done and dusted. Hope these players departing gives Ollie something to build with in the summer and hopefully Forde and Edwards will sign up.

    No massive surprises, really.
Smith just has too many players ahead of him in the pecking order. I have always liked him and I am surprised he hasn't been able to get into Holloway's team as he is one of the few from Jackett's days who can pass the ball. good luck to him - he deserves to play every week. He always put in the effort for us.
Edwards would be a great signing.
Lowry is a bit of a disappointment. He is a good player and I think just needs to cut out the red cards, but maybe his attitude is wrong - only the club know.
Feeney, well it's all been said. He's just not good enough.
Keogh was great for us when he came with his high energy game but he isn't right for Ollie's style of play.
Trotter - ideas above his station and will fall flat at Bolton.
Meierhoffer is apparantly also a Bertie Big b*****cks so not sure about him wanting to play for us long term.
Jackson - too much money for too little goals - a proven, hungry lower league striker would be better. Or someone like Becchio, as he out of favour at Norwich.
Why we would want to keep an option on Bessone is anyone's guess but I suppose he might be an adequate backup.

I think there will be more to leave before the end of the month. Please get rid of Bywater the man is a liability. Of the players released I am sorry that Smith is going, he always gave he's all and didn't look out of position wherever he played. I thought Lowry was a better left back than centre back but sulked when asked to play at left back. Good riddance to Feeney, lot of potential but didn't live up to it and when needed went missing on the pitch. As for Keogh, I really wish it would have worked out better for him, people soon forget what he was like, remember it was Keogh who done all the donkey work for the likes of Henderson, Wood and Kane when they were scoring the goals. All moved onto other clubs and have not really showed what we saw. Also under Lomas he was always played out of position.

@woolwich lion: I think if Wright is given a chance he could do well for us. he was in the team that went on last seasons unbeaten run. just think he is a luxury type player that when we're winning looks good but when chasing a game looks out of place. just have to trust Holloway's judgement on which players left. also shame lowry went as still quite young and has potential I thought. our CB position is looking both old and slow - shittu, robinson back up to beevers and dunne.

In my opinion, the 4 players who have gone are the correct ones, Lowry was a high earner not even making the bench, lost his head at vital times and just couldn't adapt to the Holloway style of play, shame as when he first came looked a Millwall player but he just wasn't up to it. The less said about Keogh and Feeney the better and Jack Smith was loyal and did a job but just isn't a Championship player.

The next lot who should be gone/transfer listed are Bywater, Wright, McDonald, Chaplow and Hoyte, none of them offer a great deal, McDonald is obviously on big money, Chaplow is a sick note, Bywater is rubbish and Wright and Hoyte are the luckiest footballers in the Championship poncing wages from the club and giving nothing back whatsoever, its laughable really. Once gone we can retain their wages and put them to use elsewhere!

We need a goalkeeper (possibly 2 if Forde goes) cover at left back, a right back, 2 centre backs, at least 1 winger (I'd want 2 though) cover in midfield (if Wright and Chaplow both go) and 2 strikers - when looking it at like that, we aren't in a strong position but with the players who have left the club I would imagine a lot of money has been freed up to use on quality not quantity.

I'd say these are good moves. Jack Smith was a utility player who could fill in a few roles in a pinch but clearly not a long term solution at any.

Sad to see Keogh's time end, despite that it's the right move. Ever since his wife had a miscarriage he was never quite the same. Had a great first year with us and it's been downhill ever since.

Send Jackson on the first bus out of South London. Guy was useless. His two misses against Bournemouth were incredible.

Lets move on. The hof did a job at the end we can get better Morrison cost a lot is he worth it? Out both and Jackson not up to it. Free money update on.
What we need is a young ball playing centre back who can bring a ball out from defence. If we had we would not have to play at home two defensive midfield players. This has been our problem at home we have no confidence to attack. Keane at Man United on loan would be a good move.

St Ledger against Wigan at Wembley the worst performance I have seen in a Millwall shirt since the days of Lindsay Smith....used to see whibread in the bookies a lot when he was at Millwall....always going out for a fag....they are certainly not the CB dream ticket

There's no point in McDonald with the wages he's on if he's not gunna feature next season. I liked Lowry would have kept him as a cb but he's clearly fallen out with management coz dunne was playing at cb and everytime I saw dunne at cb he was brilliant. Ild sign Carlos Edwards also

This in a nutshell is how I see it:-

Forde: If the price is right, give him a years supply of cigars and keep him, even though he was Count Dracula in a previous life (s*** scared of crosses).

    Wright: Wrong!

Easter and Jackson: Two of a kind, I would show both of them the door but Easter has already been offered a contract (mine would state you only play at Easter) so surely the sublime Simeon can now f*** off back to pikey land.

Morison: Worth a punt if the money is right

Lowry: Sorry to see him go, all he would cost is a wage, worth keeping on.

Smith: Goodbye Jack you are a model professional and I would keep you on because you have never let us down and you can play in defence or in front of the defence. Good luck mate.

The Hoff: Sorry but you should have journey man tattooed on your forehead, poor first touch and lose too many in the air for someone 8ft 6 (or should that be 6ft 8 either way it doesn't matter).

Edwards: F*** knows what you were like when you were 25! A real find who wants it!!! Non- journey man on your forehead young man !!!

Garvan: Give him a Garmin so he can go back to back to Slaghurst Park

Keogh and Feeney: Promising starts for both but gone stale now. Will both start scoring for fun with someone else next season but that's life. Judged on what I have seen both should go and I'm an expert!!!

Of course the real problem is who ever we keep or look to sign, we will at some stage have to deal with a low life scum c*** football agent who if (sorry when) I become Prime Minister should be put up against a wall and be shot no questioned asked. Until that glorious day Millwall like all the other clubs will make transfers based on who gets the biggest backhander........

@block 28: I don't think Bessone will be offered a new contract. Unfortunately whilst I agree with your list the rest of them are still under contract so can only be transfer listed not released. This time next year I am sure the rest of them won't be offered new contracts.. My worry at the moment is that we are down to 3 senior strikers, Easter, McDonald and Marquis. Unless we sign two double figure goal scorers I can't see where the goals are coming from.

Excuse my ignorance, I still don't understand this financial fair play situation? Does it mean there's a total squad cap on spending ? Does it mean the football dept need to be creative with their squad setup and by offloading old stock can reload the gun with the right mix of youth plus maybe some absolute standouts if there's any available. It would seem millwall 2014/15 may be a fairly attractive proposition for some decent footballers to ply their trade. Getting the mix right will be a key, very exciting time though.

I wouldn't sign that camel face t*** rio if you paid me! Awful for England in his last appearances and probably slower than Smith. Don't care if he was with us before West Ham nicked him. Still can't believe people on here think Smith was good. No disrespect to the man, but i have seen him play many, many tmes...slow and unfit, in-capable of running with or without the ball, no skill, no sense of spacial awareness, can't head, or shoot or even pass more than 2 yards (even that is hard) and he just seemed to bumble his way around the pitch and into the opposition! Thats why he was so versatile, cos' he didn't have a proper postition! Other than that...well, there ain't a lot else!

@sketchybean: I doubt Millwall could afford Rio's wages, nevertheless his experience is overwhelming and he helped Man Utd win the Premiership title,FA cup and much more. It would be foolish to write him off and no doubt he will have plenty of offers from other clubs as will Ashley Cole.
