Millwall CEO: Berylson is best chairman in Football League

JOHN Berylson has been branded the "best chairman in the Football League" by Millwall chief executive Andy Ambler.

The American supremo pumped more money into the club than ever before this season and his passion for the Lions is at an all-time high with Ian Holloway at the helm.

And Ambler, who has been Berylson's right-hand man during his seven-year tenure at The Den, says Millwall are fortunate to have such a committed owner.

"John has got his spark back and he is as enthusiastic now as I have ever seen him," Ambler said. "You can see a skip in his step and he's very excited about next season.

"At the Player of the Year dinner, fans were saying that it's great for Ollie that we stayed up, but there's only one person we need to look after and that's the chairman.

"Without him, we can't do what we all do. Fact. He's been here for seven years and it's been a great journey. His loyalty and his passion you can't fault.

"I don't think there is a better chairman in the Football League – I don't. I have never had a better working relationship with someone – he's very loyal and knows what he wants.

"I find him a pleasure to work for and we have to nurture him and keep him involved.

"We have to make sure that John doesn't reach a tipping point and I think appointing Ollie has been absolutely vital in that sense.

"The best thing that happened this season was that I met Ollie, asked him to come back the next day and John flew over to convince him to be our manager."

We are so lucky to have Berylson as our chairman, has pumped sooo much money in and not been scared to hide away and not fight. This was proven in 09 during the Wet Spam fights and he put a lot of money into the court case to clear the name for OUR fans at OUR club.

I can't wait for next season, such a tragic shame that we wont have Wall to watch on the weekend however a rest is what I think we all need after this season. I don't see the Lomas situation as being anyone on the board or Berylson's fault, the situation was that KJ left and at the time I thought personally we should go for someone who is young and hungry and could match the motto of our club and be against the world but as a unit. I felt that Lomas matched it but I wanted Dyche! Hindsight is a great thing I guess! But now we have a manager with a great track record and wants to take the club on to as high as he can and achieve as much as he can!

    We love you Millwall...!

Without a doubt, JB has been the best thing to happen to Millwall in a long, long time. When you see what goes on at a lot of clubs at board level we are very lucky to have him. For me, 'There's only one John Berylson'. Thank you so much JB.

If John Berylson looks at News @ Den.
I would like to thank you sir for looking after my club. I've supported The Wall for 50 years and in my opinion he is second to none.

@ken4tune: Absolutely Ken, a breath of fresh air. Many would have walked considering the financial backing he has given us, with more to come I am sure. He has remained loyal, hopefully next season J.B.and the fans can be rewarded with a team to be proud of, Ollie and the lads do your stuff next season. Coyl

At first like many of us i was to say the least a little suspicious of this businessman coming in from across the pond. Why would a well educated American with no previous connection and to me at least more importantly, no emotional ties would want to plough his money into our little old not to mention notorious club?
Being of a suspicious nature i tried to look at it from every angle and to me things just didn't add up. There had to be assets somewhere that were about to be stripped, money somewhere to be syphoned off. But Mr Berylson not only ploughed his money into our club he also bought in to the whole ethos of the club. The backs against the wall, the rebellious nature, the last man standing, the anti establishment nature of the club and not only that he seemed to relish it.
Even when once again the authorities and the press tried to castigate us over the West Ham skirmish he was at the forefront standing up for the club and it's supporters at no little cost. That to me was when he became one of 'us'.
I've had the pleasure of chatting to him once or twice in the car park and that in itself is a breath of fresh air, i don't ever remember getting the opportunity to speak to Micky Purser during his tenure although admittedly i may've shouted the odd thing in his general direction a few times over the years when things weren't going particularly well but never has a chairman of this club been as approachable as JB has been.
I don't know exactly how much he and the board (and it's not all about JB we have to thank the other board members as well for buying into his vision and their support) have put into the club since their arrival but it must be well in the tens of miillions and probably well north of £30m maybe even more but what i do know is from the perilous position we were in when he arrived we couldn't possibly have dreamed we'd have a man in charge now just seven or so years later, that has not only bankrolled the club but has become one of 'us' and is now seen not just as a piggybank but as someone who for whatever reason genuinely cares for the club and it's supporters and please long may it continue.

    JB i thank you.

JB seems like a fantastic honest bloke that is just so good for the club. He is indispensable. Most fans and managers are usually at odds with their own chairman, protesting and upsetting the status quo. But our chairman lets the manager get on with the footballing side of things and experiences all the highs and lows as fan like the rest of us.

Going by Ambler's comments it sounded like John was starting to feel a little jaded after the fallout of the FA Cup semi-final last season, staying up by relying on other results going our way and then Kenny Jackett resigning and then the Lomas debacle. But it has all led us to this moment... Now we have a great proven quality championship manager in Olly, renewed team spirit and that excellent sell out atmosphere against Bournemouth have reignited us all for next season. Bring it on!

Whilst it is not unusual for an employee to talk nicely about his boss in public, cannot disagree with anything he has said. JB has been an excellent chairman. Hope AA will now mature into an excellent long term CEO who looks after the members and shareholders of his club.

jb is a great man, he is very loyal to our club and our supporters its a shame that a few brain dead supporters (so called) let him and the rest of us down in getting the club a bad press like the punch up at Wembley. in the main we love our club and support our team to the bitter end theres nothing like the millwall roar better times ahead thanks jb.

We owe him a great deal, some fans would criticise Jesus Christ himself if he were our chairman, so I am sure he has his knockers. As for me, quite simply he has been far better for us than I ever would have expected. He seems genuine in the way he deals with people and has a real passion for the Club and community that support it. Some people are just born to lead and JB is of that mould. Lead on JB and I know I will follow.
