Millwall will turn to Blackpool goalkeeper if Forde departs

MILLWALL will move for Blackpool goalkeeper Matt Gilks IF David Forde fails to agree a new contract and leaves the club this summer.

NewsAtDen understands that Gilks features prominently in manager Ian Holloway's transfer plans even though the Lions' top priority is to keep hold of Forde.

Forde confirmed after last weekend's man-of-the-match performance against Bournemouth that he hopes to finalise an extension on his current deal, which expires next month.

But contingency plans are in place for if negotiations break down, and Gilks, who Holloway managed during his time at Bloomfield Road, would be the prime target to replace Forde.

The 31-year-old Scotland international will also be available on a free transfer come July as his contract with the Tangerines comes to an end.

Speaking last week about his future, Gilks said: "I'm going to go away and turn my phone off for a couple of weeks. I'll let my agent do all the talking and see what happens.

"Nobody at Blackpool has spoken to me about my future, but first of all I will give my body a rest and get a bit of sun on my back."

Gilks is Blackpool's captain and won the club's Player of the Year award this season.

A good championship keeper, in an ideal world we have Forde and Gilks because it looks like Bywater is going to be sticking around for next season... While we at it Olly, can we get Luciano Becchio in on a season long loan? Proving champ experience, mobile and can lead a line. Cheers!

We like Forde, but nice to know that Ollie has somebody to take his place , if required.

Does it sound like gilks is a bit disallusioned with Blackpool or am I reading it wrong? Get in early Ollie just in case . Hope they pick good characters not just on talent alone.

Gilks and the lad Johnstone from Doncaster really impressed me this season. I agree that keepng Forde is best but either of those two would be a good replacement. Not forgetting young Gerrar as well, he needs to get a chance at some point.

If Forde leaves I would try for Speroni before Gilks. He's also on a free and probably not happy playing backup to Hennessey. Johnstone from Donny is a good shout as well.

@MillwallGibby: yes, he was on exactly that gibby. He impressed me loads
a very good young keeper who I'd sign tomorrow. The best keeper we played against last season by a a country mile.

For me, we need to keep Forde. He's got the passion and is an excellent Keeper. Stick Gerrar on the Bench as No.2 and get rid of Bywater.

Forde is the most improved keeper in this div by a mile but if he decides his future lies elsewhere I'd be happy enough with Gilks.

This is a good move by Ollie & Millwall which will hopefully insert some urgency into sorting out Forde's contract situation.
Basically Forde, we really want you to stay however we have a replacement lined up so don't take to long.

@block 28: good line from only fools....its just a ploy so they can get forde on the cheap...after reading the SLP olly went on record as saying he only wants players who will play his way & for the club...forde wants to play for mfc..gilks is blackpool through & through...not mfc..

Cemetery is full of indesinle people.

Forde is a slightly better than average keeper,i as ever if he wants more he will go.

Never let any player be bigger than the club

@wongo: Absolutely. Forde can have a good patch, as he did in teh last eight games, but he can be bloody terrible, as he was earlier this season and for parts of last season. We wuold be better letting him go and getting someone in who is consistent

Forde your in a long list of very good mfc keepers, reliable and a long servant.
go and get that one last lucrative contracts you crave but make it a prem one as you may regret it if it's foranother cchampionship club. Either or I'd happily keep you or or let you go.
