Preview: Millwall vs. Bournemouth

MILLWALL are increasingly confident that striker Stefan Maierhofer will be fit to face Bournemouth on Saturday.

The Austrian frontman sat out training in the first half of the week after coming off against QPR with a sore back and a tight hamstring.

But Maierhofer trained freely on Thursday and Friday ahead of the Lions' final-day decider against the Cherries.

Lee Martin, however, will miss the game with a knee injury.

Danny Shittu (Achilles) and Ed Upson (ankle) are the only other absentees.

Bournemouth's only injury concern is defender Elliot Ward, who will not be involved after undergoing knee surgery.

In other news, Millwall boss Ian Holloway and midfielder Nicky Bailey have missed out on the Championship manager and player of the month awards.

Burnley's Sean Dyche and Blackburn striker Rudy Geste scooped the gongs.

    Great news.
No manager of the month award for Holloway although I do think he deserves it but happy to let it go elsewhere.

good to see hof is on the mend.
cant say im unhappy about IH and bailey missing out on player and manager of the month.
normally when people win these awards their form goes tits up,so wait untill after the bournmouth game and they can win all the awards they like.

@jim1222: @jim1222: agree our prize is a far bigger one than a monthly award, we know Ollie has done a good job , plus Ollie must learn he is part of Millwall now & no one likes us , so not much chance of any awards

@Jim28: truth be told Jim, the crowd have been jittery this season, probably for all the crap we have had to put up with. Doncaster surprised me, the team clearly gave their all and played well enough, yet the crowd booed at the end. That's not what Millwall is about in my opinion.

Sorry to dampen spirits but am not at all certain we will win tomorrow. Bournemouth are saying they want to finish their highest ever in the league by beating us. Millwall never perform well in front of a big crowd let alone at home, they will be nervous and prone to lack concentration. Birmingham are taking a big crowd with them to Bolton and are as determined as we are to avoid the drop, our only chance is if Leicester can dispatch Doncaster, that is not a forgone conclusion either.
I need to take a couple of tablets go to bed and wake up at 2.30pm tomorrow.

@Peckhamlad: whatever happens peck, we've given ourselves the best opportunity to stay alive, if the boys stick to the routine and the crowd give positive support that's all we can do. Good luck to you all and let's get this show on the road.

@Peckhamlad: Totally agree. I would be estastic but very surprised if we win tomorrow. There are a lot here who could be setting themselves up for huge emotional fall tomorrow. I hope I am wrong once againafter ending up with egg on my face saying this is a lost cause of a season several weeks ago.

@Peckhamlad: better back us for the drop then at 16/1 if you're that pessimistic.

We will stay up. Donny will lose, brum draw at best.

Yet another up and down season comes to and end, who would have thought a couple of months ago we would be in the position we are in now, which is, a very very very good chance of playing Championship football next season. 🙂
So come on lads lets round the season off with a good result: 3-1
Then it's time to rebuild over the summer, let my finger nails grow back, reduce my blood pressure and prepare myself for what i believe is going to be a great season.

    Mr 0 likes says:-
    1) I can't see how Bailey's name was in the frame for player of the month. He strikes me as a player who thinks he is better than he really is. If we do go down he will probably go big time Charlie and want to leave.
    2) Morison should start instead of the Hoff regardless of the Hoff's fitness. He seems more of a threat, wins more balls in the air and looks like he wants it more. Put the Hoff on the bench.
No one likes me I don't care............
