Millwall lose Upson to ankle injury for final four games

ED Upson will not play again this season because of an ankle injury.

Millwall have announced that the midfielder, who is currently serving a two-match ban, will spend the remaining weeks of the campaign in the treatment room.

Physio Bobby Bacic told the club's official site: "Ed has suffered an ankle injury that will sideline him for the next few weeks, effectively ruling him out for the season.

"The treatment room can be like a revolving door at times and whilst Ed has come in joining Danny Shittu, we are happy to report that Richard Chaplow is rejoining training."

@Jim28: we've all said it before, these powder - puff players are a waste of time. If you get injured in training, they are useless.

@BUSHWACKER14: As I've mentioned on here before, if you go down to the training ground and watch the team train (training matches etc), they never wear shin guards etc, its any wonder they sustain injuries! I'm sorry, I fail to understand why you'd train differently to the way you'd play, in every respect, let alone to prevent injuries!

no mention of HOW - if that is in training it is shameful - there is no need for strenuous training at this stage - he could have played the last 3 - one more midfield injury and we become weak again - we already know Bailey is carrying an injury

If it happened in training so what, that's what happens. My worst Injurys happened training, jumped and landed awkward, went to turn and run , serious pain in knee, no player near me on either occasion, most Injureys happen in training cos they train everyday, we are no different from any other club,it's just the way it goes.

where would you draw the line at acceptable levels of training injuries? How many before it becomes too many? Your line of reasoning seems to suggest it can't be helped, but that can't be - there are more and less intelligent ways to train with 3 weeks of the season to go.

@timchimes: That's the trouble with injuries though Tim, they can happen at any time- they don't have to come from crunching tackles or overtraining... As borders said, his injuries have came from landing awkward from a routine jump - turning and running - again a standard movement in football... I've had a similar experience myself - my feet got planted, I switched direction quickly - top half moved - bottom half stayed where it was... = Locked pelvis!
Obviously, our 1st team players are professionals and this should limit the amount of injuries they pick up... but the flip side is, they are constantly pushing themselves to the limit, week in week out - and it doesn't take much to go over the edge. Especially so, in training matches- these are obviously a key part of IH's selection process- and I guess it's kind of hard to find the balance between - putting in enough effort to get picked for the squad... and putting in maybe that little bit too much effort.
p.s. Oh well, at least it's 1 player in - 1 player out, and not a group of injuries.. good luck tampax! COYL.

@Dazi: I have thought for a long time that we have not seen the best of Wright, but I am not sure that he has the necessary strength needed in the Championship, Upson gets stuck in and I can't say that Wright has that in him. I would love to be proven wrong as I think he is an excellent technical player.

@Dazi: Well, IH seems to like him - and I think most of the players in our squad have improved parts of their game since IH came in.. so you never know - he could be in different player by now.
Agree with glyngo - He's a great technical player - just think he lacked a bit of tenacity.

@timchimes : i would not know what the acceptable level is, my point is its a physical game and you will not stay free from injury wheather in training or during games by adopting the soft peddle approach you seem to suggest. also we have no idea when upson sustained this injury or how , may not have had anything to do with the training ground

When we was playing 442 josh wright couldn't handle the role but considering there's a few different roles in that midfield now he may be more use.

Barnsley win means they're still right on our tails but keeps Charlton well within our sights with just the 1 game in hand.

Tough one to call, would probably prefer the draw.

@lion.ie: with the exclusion of Birmingham, I think our run-in is the best one of the lot. I would fancy our chances against all those team we have to face, I reckon the only team that worries me is Bournemouth.

But it means nothing.... Our boys need to keep up the fight....

Everyone needs to desperately get to The Den for Doncaster and Bournemouth!!! They are huge games!!!!

A point at Borough is doable and hopefully Rednapp will be resting players for the playoffs!!!

COME ON WALL!!!!!!!! IM GETTING EMOTIONAL!!!!!!
