Ipswich Town skipper Carlos Edwards joins Millwall on loan

WINGER Carlos Edwards has joined Millwall on loan until the end of the season.

The Ipswich Town captain, 35, has made just nine league starts this term.

Speaking to the club's official site, Edwards said that he had no qualms about swapping a play-off push with the Tractor Boys for a battle against the drop.

He said: "It's important for me at this stage of my career to be playing week-in week-out, so when I heard Millwall were keen to take me I jumped at the chance.

"I know they are in a relegation fight just now and I'm looking forward to playing my part in helping them in their battle to stay in the Championship."

Meanwhile, Lions striker John Marquis has returned to Northampton on loan.

@REAL Supporter: He could inject that much needed pace we have been lacking on the wing, I hear he has just got himself a new turbo powered zimmer frame.
So we take on another unmatch fit geriatric ffs you couldn't make this up.
We should be called Cast Offs Un- united.

      @jdt1885:
I've never even heard of a player who at 35 is a winger. Isn't that position exclusively for young mercurial upstarts rather than over the hill outcasts? Mind you we could always ask MU if we can nick Giggsy until the end of the season...just a thought!

What is the point in this signing or any signing for that matter. Just someone else who nobody wants and at 35 years old it's just laughable. We are fast becoming the laughing stock of The Championship. As for poor John Marquis, no wonder he can't score as he doesn't know what team he plays for from one week to the next.

This man can cross a good accurate ball.this is a good temporary signing.Malone and Martin are both injured we need wide balls crossed in to either the Swede or Morrison to disrupt defences and create loose ball for small other forwards
We might score enough goals to win a game

The whole situation is strange now - 8 games left and most of us, including myself, are pretty much resigned to the fact we're going down. But I guess he's got to keep going for it until it's mathematically impossible. I'm still gona go to all the games, whatever happens....

Can any one tell me if zipo's do a season ticket or is my only choice of going to the circus at mfc ??????
My dads getting old but even he'll be scared of coming down to zampa rd incase they keep him in with the other oldies down there, but then again I'm not nasty enough and he don't deserve it.
as I said previously, we should have gone down last season cause we'd expect a joke or two in league one.
Quite a few yrs back a struggling german side's supporters decided enough was enough and they all chipped in to buy their club and have since pulled their selves out of the s*** and are quite a profitable club with decent crowds and attract a decent standard of player they are competitive in their league and have in the passed couple yrs experianced as good an eoropean run as can be expected.
Maybe in the next couple yrs we should consider something similar as I cannot believe we've been sold down the swanny. For all the good thats been done the past 6 or 7 yrs we have rappidly undone it all in the most hurtful way I could have imagined.
No identity, no structure, a rapidly deteriorating match day support, no professionalism, no support from the local authority, no respect for the loyal few that actually give a s*** for our club, no ambition, no drive,
no direction, no discipline. Forgive me if I've missed anything out but as you can guess, I'm hurting and want my club back as I'm really missing it like an owner that misses it's lost family pet, I would give a reward to the person who finds it but as it's not going to happen anytime soon I'm in two minds wether to use the money on something else as you can imagine.
P***** off to say the least.

I think I'm gonna set myself up as a footie agent, sign up all the old past it deadwood from across the leagues and then sit outside Holloway's office for the next two years. Could be a very lucrative career move.

@lukesmithmfc: The saddest thing is Luke that ordinary fans like us could see and point out the obvious flaws in our squad at the end of last season, such as the lack of a quality centre half (or halves), lack of a decent (and committed) wide player(s), aging squad and getting older, no physical presence up front etc. etc. etc. and yet the so called professionals can't see it or see it far too late. I don't even go to the games and know what the problems are.

@lukesmithmfc: good post: the German club you mentioned is FC Schalke 04 and they have a huge fan base, helped by them being part of wider sporting community. In fact they are one of the largest clubs in the world, based on membership. I would love us to have something similar here but culturally and socially we are completely different from the German model. No absentee owners in Germany...

There have been several attempts by fans to own their club, so far without success. I believe Portsmouth are the latest but look at them, though to be fair points penalties have not helped their cause. Still, it does remain their club.

I am not sure what Millwall' s capitalisation is but I suspect in the region of £15m. That would take a hell of a lot raising: around £3000+ per core adult supporter on average, money to 'invest' that I suspect few supporters could afford. Still, it is a nice thought..

I suppose the key variable in all this is John Berylson. Does he decide to keep throwing good money after bad or does he put us for sale? Given this season's debacle, few could blame him if he decided to call it a day.

Whatever, Millwall is our club and the emotional investment by us all is huge. Whatever division we are in we will continue to support the club, despite what a lot of the comments on this site say.

@sealion he could get injured I agree but width is what is needed and he gives us that.KJ always played wide player because that created chances. A better option would have been a young premiership player. This time of the season that's difficult let's see what happens with an experienced championship player.

We've signed a giant up front and a 35 yr old winger. Hmmm. I wonder what our tactics will be on Saturday?
I bet Gary Bowyer is burning the midnight oil trying to figure that one out.

@norris: But why have the board allowed him to waste even more money at this state of the season on a old player who needs game time, I would like to know what the average age of the squad now is. Must be the oldest out of all 4 divisions.

to get us out of the mire we needed 2 minimum proper prem players - this smacks of preparation for next year when Edwards won't get a contract at Ipswich - might be a sound solid player for us in league one

He won't get a contract at Ipswich next year for sure. He can't even get into their team this year ffs.

So we get shot of a decent 26 year old right winger in James Henry, cos Ollie don't play with wingers, who has been an ever present in a very good top of the table wolves side, and we replace him with a 35 year old right winger who is an ever present on the bench. Is this bloke gonna be any better than FEENEY, who we'v got out on loan, I don't rate FEENEY but what's the point of this fella at this late stage, they are never match fit ,that takes ages then they are out injured, perhaps Ollie wants him to keep that other Ipswich waste of space Martin company in the injury room.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry to be honest.
I could go on....but, I've got to say that Ollie does not give a s*** what people think in general, let alone of his signings.

How does Holloway still have credibility with some? Its like a group of turkeys giving Bernard Matthews a standing ovation. I'm seriously considering assassinating him for the greater good. My defence would be a crime of passion.

You all act surprised at these signings?

I'm not surprised we have had to bring in some of the players we have, why would anybody want to come and play for us other than first team football? 90% of the players who are looking for a club, if they had been at the game on Tuesday would have been telling their agents 'don't fancy it here'. The club is a shambles, from the board to the manager to the players and I'd go a step further and say even some of our 'fans'.

I am a firm believer we have some of the best fans in the world but after Tuesday night, seeing the abuse Martyn Woolford received on Twitter was embarrassing. The guy has been probably one of the only shining lights in our abysmal season and our top scorer - was asked to play left back and yes was easily beaten for the third goal but it wasn't his fault! Yet our 'fans' decide to s*** him off, get on his back, call him all sorts etc and you wonder why we can't bring anyone 'decent' in?

Another thing is money? We all want to sign the best players but how do you expect to sign good players when we don't get 10,000 to our home games apart from the Leeds and Charlton 'day trippers'? No one, in their right frame of mind would pump in huge transfer fees for players when they have no way of recouping that money, Berylson tries his best and has been fantastic for our club but at the end of the he is a business man and business men do not throw money at things and expect to get nothing back.

The board have quite frankly ruined 6 years of hard work, in not even a full season, we hear all this rubbish about 'money being available' and 'the manager will be backed financially' but where was all this backing when we had a decent manager to use it properly? Kenny saw the upcoming car crash and jumped ship (and I for one don't blame him one bit) Between Lomas and Holloway, all we've seen is 'Big time Charlie's' who are looking for one last pay day before their careers are finished and the board have been stupid enough to sanction the deals.

Scott McDonald and DJ Campbell spring to mind, probably around 40K a week they are on, combined of course and what do we see from them? 5 goals between them and plagued with injury? Other clubs must see us coming a mile off and quickly come up with a deal for us to take the crap they don't want knowing we'll be stupid enough to sign them!

We'd have been better off bringing in some hungry youngsters and players who had things to prove and we'd have been sitting comfortably in mid table moving on to next year. We all should stop worrying about these players we have now and begin to worry about who we'll have in our team in the first game of next season whatever league we are in ...

      @spj91: Great post, Intelligent.
The point is however, as I've stated many times, is that the board are inept.
Doesn't matter whether its JB or De-Savary. They see a money making opportunity, become ' one of the lads' investing in English Football, and because, collectively, they have no idea whatsoever what we or 'its' are all about, continue to throw money at it. I excuse Paphitis from this because he DID understand all of this and got out when he saw the writing on the wall.
The board, over the last few years have displayed an amateurish approach at best. How the hell a Championship club can give a manager carte blanche to sign whomever they like without some recourse is beyond me. Yes. trust the manager and give him a budget but if we had anyone knowing what they are doing at CEO level you'd think alarm bells would be ringing. Well, they've been clanking in my ears for months and years.
The Justin Hoyte signing and the 'okey cokey' with Marquis are just two examples of the incredible ineptitude that prevails. The llast two signings have taken my breath away. Relegation comes around to most teams sooner or later and I can accept that. What I can't accept is the self induced demise of Millwall and much, much worse, we're now a laughing stock.
I'd estimate, with the current crop of s*** we've got, we'll gain a maximum of 4 points until the season ends. By my reckoning that will see us relegated within two weeks.
I don't care if others see taht as negative talk. It isn't . Its a wake up and smell the coffee time I'm afraid.

@NICKOLA: I dread to think what our current wage bill looks like as you said it would appear our board literally haven't got a clue what's going on and are just throwing money around for the next name that gets put on the table. I also think 4 points might be a bit generous! I'm hoping we're both wrong and there is fight left in them but I hate to say, I can't see it...

Ian must be convinced in his own mind that we,re a chance to stay up or he surely would've gone down the path of playin the kids to see who,s who for next season! I mean, in for a penny, in for a pound. What difference would it make now to throw caution to the wind and let the toddlers have a crack. The mans either had an internal meltdown or it's gunna go right to the wire . Or, please god no no no , there's no one at the controls and we just gunna smash straight into the wall. Like the rest of you , I also find something special bout being completely f***** over and regularly disappointed. I just for some strange reason can't stop watching millwall ! What's happening to me!!!!!

For Jim1222 - How can I comment? Knowledge, insight, moving pictures (not a new phenomenon), 40 years of supporting this club passionately, 15 years of hard slog to every tin pot ground in the country to watch mostly mediocre football (with some amazing experiences and memories thrown in) during the 80's and 90's before my non-Millwall life moved on. How can I comment on where we were at the end of last season? Easy, we were on TV several times, again moving pictures, the evidence was there for all to see. How can I comment on Wembley? I saw the 50 year old + men acting like spoilt teenagers all the way from New Cross to Wembley and in Wembley (in my plastic seat for a 'plastic supporter'). When you see me comment on what happened in a game I haven't seen then have a pop fair enough, but I don't, I rely on this site and some trusted posters on this site to give me a flavour of what went on as our newspaper reports are generally sh*te. Then I watch the highlights on Lions Player and The Football League Show (more moving pictures). I don't talk formation bollx, unless you are talking about the top ten teams in Europe everything else is a variation on 4-4-2 in any case, the pitch is only so big and there are only 11 players on it at any one time. I thought Trotter was class every time I saw him, Henry was the best wide man we've had in years and after seeing Feeney once this season, I KNEW that he wasn't good enough. My entitled opinions. I have an opinion about Holloway based on his record which is completely embellished by himself and the media, he took QPR and Leicester down from this division and is heading for a nice hat-trick for his cv there. He nearly ruined Dougie Freedman's Palace's season and was saved by Zaha and brought a Blackpool squad largely assembled by the previous Manager up through the play-offs after amassing a 'huge' promotion tally of 70 points thanks to six wins in their last eight (nearly screwing up their play-off place with a draw on the last day of the season), before entertaining us all with his ineptness in the Premiership for a season. I warned everybody about this before he was appointed, but most of you fell for it and I take no pleasure in being right. I knew we wouldn't go down last year, in January, based on the points we already had (I study past trends for betting purposes), I told everybody that although it was far more squeaky than I could've imagined. I think KJ is up there with George Graham and John Docherty based on where he took us from and to and based on what he had to work with and put up with. The reason I don't go to games anymore, the clue is in my log in name, one game would cost more than your season ticket (if you have one). My 7yo half English/half Irish lad is a Millwall supporter. All his Irish mates support Liverpool and Manchester Utd but he's proud to wear his Millwall kit to training but not as proud as I am to see him dare to be different and follow a long family tradition. Did I mention my comments about Patrick Bamford well over a year ago? We should have got him when his first loan spell with MK Dons ended. So if you don't think I am entitled to comment fair enough, but then you probably voted for Danny Shittu as player of the year last year, think he is the answer to our defensive problems and that a two year contract was a good idea. He's not, I've seen him play several times and I've seen all the goals we have conceded (moving pictures again) where he is so far out of position you'd need GPS to find him, both Wembley goals a case in point. Again, my entitled opinion.
Ranting response over, but at least it gave me something to do on the train to work this morning, so thanks for that.

@lion.ie: Excellent stuff. There is a tendendency among some of the posters to fundamentalism when it comes to Millwall. It was clearly evident when the tickets were being allocated for the semi final at Wembley. If you don't go to every match, home and away, can't say what hotel you stayed in when we played in Hungary, well, you can't be a real supporter. Like you, I have watched Millwall in some strange places, had some great times, been devasted by being heavily beaten but half way home started thinking about the next match. However, I can't be real Millwall, whatever that means, as I don't go to every match. Sometimes I even prefer to go National Hunt racing, meeting other friends who know absolutely nothing about football. I am able to tell them about the values of our club: support for Lewisham Hospital; giving away their sponsorship to a worthy charity, rather than taking money from a payday lender (I am able to support a poor team, but blood money from a pay day lender would ensure my absence); and, the clubs sterling support for Jimmy Mizen's family. That to me is Millwall and is what I am proudly able to tell people who only know Millwall from the bad publicity we get in certain sections of the media.

How about this for an idea. With it being Dockers day tomorrow, how about we give a game to Alan McLeary, Dave Mehmet, Sean Sparham, Jimmy Carter, Wesley Reid, Nicky Coleman, Les Briley, Terry Hurlock, Brian Horne, Paul Sansome and Kenny Cunnigham.
In fact, I reckon if they played every game until the end of the season, we'd stay up.

He knew, as we all have done for some time, that Feeney is awful and never will be a decent L1 player even. I have always rated Henry although his attitude can be off, he can be a match winner and only player we had to provide decent crosses or shots from set pieces. Now at the last hour IH decides we need a winger and says it all when we have an old player to replace a young one! No mention of how unfit the 35 year old is either - not played since January, old and we have just a few games left - disaster beckons! Marquis back on loan as well (does he now realise he's pony?).

Sorry, but this bloke is a clown if he didn't know that as he has talked about not having options for width for 4-4-2. Maybe instead of raisins he should have tried a different recipe as his one is leaving a bad and sour taste in the mouth - relegation.

Dread to think what our losses will be this year with the two inept 'managers' and their prolific signings have cost us.
