Maierhofer to have scan on knee injury ahead of Blues clash

STEFAN Maierhofer will be "wrapped in cotton wool" for the next 36 hours after he picked up a knee injury in Saturday's defeat to Leeds United.

Millwall boss Ian Holloway has revealed that Maierhofer is one of three players struggling to be fit for Tuesday's crunch clash with Birmingham City at The Den.

Mark Beevers (calf) and John Marquis (concussion) are almost certain to miss out, but striker Maierhofer has been given a chance of playing and will undergo a scan on Monday.

Holloway said: "Maierhofer has got a slightly swollen knee and we're sending him for a scan to see why that is, but we might have to wrap him in cotton wool.

"Marquis suffered concussion and if you look at it, it should have been a penalty because he got volleyed in the face at the start of the second half.

"He was concussed at the end of the game and went to see their doctor, so we can't risk his health. Beevers looks like he's definitely out with a torn calf muscle."

Scott Malone was absent from the squad at Elland Road after aggravating a hip problem in training last week and is unlikely to feature against the Blues tomorrow.

"His injury flared up and he had to limp out of training on Thursday," Holloway said.

"It looks quite major, to be honest. If Malone wasn't fit for Saturday, he certainly won't be fit for Tuesday with a torn muscle."

F***** hell, just when he was lookin like becoming a headache for the opposition on Tuesday, run him down to the guy hospital and put him in the hyperbaric chamber overnight, that,l sort him out. Was probably always gunna pick up a niggle after been out of the action for a while, hope it's a quick recovery.

Who at LB now? Bessone, Smith, Hoyte (painful to type those last two especially). Although Hot isn't fit he is the biggest difference in having a hope so hope nothing major.

Would be great if we could see the best available team on the pitch with the big hoffmeister with a few games under his belt, no injuries and the best out there . Unchanged for a few weeks to see how it would go.

Very much reminds me of the ‘95/96 season where we had a Tues night game against Birmingham and were in real relegation trouble. I went to the game but didn't see a kick because some numpty outside the Barnaby threw a Pils bottle at the Birmingham coach which missed and hit my car windscreen which was being driven by my 7 month pregnant Mrs. It was the days before mobile phones and I got the dreaded "bing-bong - Call home immediately" message in the ground. ‘Wall went on to win that game 2-0 that night whilst I was getting the windscreen fixed. But then we didn't win another game all season and went down on the last day. Memories - not all good are they. Still my daughter will be 18 in a few months time so not all bad! Come on you Lions we need a win (and not just one)!

Are we the only side that continuously suffer with injuries? It seems like we have two or three after each game. Unbelievable really when Burnley for instance have used less than half the players we have so far this season.

Can't say I'm surprised about the 'hof'. Bloke hasn't really played any competitive football this season so was always going to be susceptible to injury.
Beevers being injured doesn't really bother me as he looks like a rabbit in headlights when on the pitch now days.
Fredricks and Dunne as full backs tomorrow night, with Jimmy playing a protective role just in front of the defence?
Must be due a result against the brummies tomorrow night

@Syd the Lion: Agree with you Syd, Beevers worried me at Leeds, looked slow and made some clumsy challenges that could've cost us.
As for the HOFF, well, I'm gutted. He still might play, but he probably won't, and shouldn't... Knee injuries are f**king dodgy. FFS, he's only played about 75mins over 2 games.... story of the f**king season...
Our squad situation is absolutely f**king outrageous!...........
Rant over. At least we've got some kind of starting 11- dependet's line up looks like a good shout...
COYL!!! Gona try and sing for the whole 90 tomorrow - it's do or f**king die now!! MIIIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!

to be honest I now see this as just another omen for this ill-fated season - I have been positive till now but frankly it has become utterly ridiculous now - Beevers hasn't played for weeks , Hoff we get 2 half games out of him and Marquis played week in week out on loan but is injured as soon as he comes back for us - It is impossible to pick up points on a regular basis when you have to change the team by 3, 4 or 5 players every week - enough

I thought we were still in march, please, someone pinch me.
comedy's dont usually run for more than a couple series but the millwall fc one has surely run its course.
what an endless joke we are.
maybe the company in talks with us over stadium rights is the comedy club, rather than "up the creek"
They can rename the den "s h I t creek".
