Millwall defender Shittu to miss remainder of the season

DANNY Shittu has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

The 33-year-old centre back hobbled off against Derby earlier this month with an Achilles injury.

Shittu, who has made 23 appearances this term, was seen at The Den prior to Saturday's 0-0 draw with Charlton walking around in a protective boot.

And the Lions' fears about the defender's injury have now been confirmed by a specialist, who has ruled that Shittu will miss the final ten games of the campaign.

Manager Ian Holloway said: "Danny has seen a specialist and he'll definitely be out for the rest of the season."

Since Shittu was sidelined, club captain Paul Robinson has stepped in – and Millwall have only conceded one goal in their last three games.

"We're defending from the front as well and that is absolutely vital," Holloway added.

Lee Martin (knee) and Richard Chaplow (Achilles) missed last weekend's south London derby stalemate and have not trained since.

Holloway will also be without Shaun Williams for Saturday's trip to Leeds United, with the midfielder suspended for the next two games.

But Williams' absence could pave a return to the fold for Jimmy Abdou.

"Jimmy would have been in the squad last Saturday but he was ill," Holloway said. "Jimmy's been there or there abouts for a while now.

"Shaun left his foot in on someone, it was totally innocuous but he got booked and that was his tenth of the season.

"He said it was nothing, but it was something and he shouldn't have done it."

@bermlion: Nah, sorry Berm I don't see 3pts for us up at Bellend Road. I was convinced we were going to win against Bolton, Barnsley, Brighton, Blackpool and Charlton and we never won any of them. History is definitely not on our side BUT I do hope I'm wrong.

FFS we know we have only let in 1 goal since Robbo has been in for Danny, but we have also only scored 1 goal there lies the problem and the cause of our demise.

Robbo and Lowry have stepped up to the plate, unlike the s*** in front of them. I honestly can't pick another onfield player that has done even half a job. Playing for their football lives? I think not.....

@lion.ie: Modern Football play: remember when Ollie arrived and interviews the back four, he mentioned changing the ' Culture ' here. ( also have a look at Ashley Cole, Johnson, Junior & Roberto Carlos of Brazil ) . All support the forwards.

@BUSHWACKER14: I never thought that I would see Danny Shitttu being mentioned in the same sentence as the above players that you have put forward Bushwacker, but there is a first time for everything.

Makes me wonder why he is at Millwall in you can compair him to these players.

Anyone else find themselves not really caring any more? Obviously I want us to stay up but I'm so resigned to relegation that every little good thing, however rare it is, is just delaying the inevitable. We don't deserve to stay up, our home form has been so poor recently and going down there has become something more of an obligation than a treat. Fed up, clear out needed and hopefully we can make play-offs next year in League one.

We don't do half measures - why have just 1 injury, when you can have a full set?!?!
It's like there's been a cloud of s**t over us all season and after last night, it's gona be hard to pull it back. The games against Birmingham and Donny, will be the making or breaking of the season.

Shame about Danny, he's had a mixed season - none of the defense can be proud of our goal difference. But Danny was playing some good football when IH came in- his delivery vastly improved and he was looking like a complete player.... SHIIITTTUUUUUUUU! get well soon.

ROBBO - this is your time now son - keep doing what you're doing - defensively, we've been looking good. p.s. - Please give our strikers a firm kick up the backside!

where has all the aggression gone that we showed against ipswich,ok we got a lucky goal ,but we made our own luck and deserved the goal, the way we played then is the only way to get out of the mire we are in,not tippy tappy football,we have go for it and not give team's time to play,a couple of time's against charlton we let them pass the ball around as if they were barcelona ,we have to fight route one if we have to.

@bonnie1272: It pisses me off so much you have no idea. I could rant and rave and write an essay about it. If I was running Millwall,-and I pray that does happen one day-I'd tear up his contract, pay him off, and tell him to ply his trade in the Conference, where he truly belongs. I've had enough of these defenders with a turning circle of a cement truck. He can shove his 'That's what we do' right up where the sun don't shine. It's the like of him that have given us the worst goal difference I've ever seen under a Millwall flag.

If anyone is interested I have looked at the remaining games of the bottom 7 teams (including us) and it seems like Yeovil have the best run-in and Doncaster the worst. I also reckon we need 47 points for safety, so it is obvious what we have to do - win all our home games. Looks like it's League One next season then!

@Profiler4: My most optimistic prediction would be 42 points but we are already a long way from that with ten games to go. We are as low as 2/1 on for relegation with some bookies, that says it all. However, if we were to get the win on Saturday and other results went our way then we could start looking up the table at the teams above us again. I think that somewhere in between 42 an 47 could be enough and it's notoriously hard to predict what points teams will get in their remaining fixtures, as Yeovil, proved the other night. Doncaster, Birmingham and Blackpool aren't out of this yet so there is hope, but if we lose more ground on these teams in the next two fixtures then it we be nigh on impossible to stay up unless Charlton make a pigs ear of their games in hand. A win on Saturday won't save us but it'll put the serious jitters on those mentioned above. COYL
