MILLWALL have confirmed that the main stand at The Den will be renamed after club legend Barry Kitchener from next season onwards.

The Lions have been looking at various ways to commemorate the life and career of their former defender since his sudden death from throat cancer earlier this year.

The Barry Kitchener Stand will be officially opened at a ceremony scheduled to take place "at the earliest opportunity once the season kicks-off," chief executive Andy Ambler said.

Chairman John Berylson told the club's official site: "I think this was probably one of the easiest decisions the board have had to make.

"It was a unanimous decision, not just amongst the directors, but also the fans and everyone associated with the club that Barry should be remembered in this way.

"He was a great man as well as a great player and his name will forever remain synonymous with that of Millwall."

Great gesture from the club which will be supported by all fans of Millwall young or old.
