Marquis recalled by Millwall from Northampton Town loan

MILLWALL have recalled John Marquis from Northampton Town.

The striker, 21, has been brought back to The Den while manager Ian Holloway continues his search for a loan signing ahead of Saturday's game against Charlton.

Steve Morison is a doubt for the south London derby with a neck injury, while DJ Campbell (hamstring) and Jermaine Easter (thigh) are also sidelined.

Cobblers boss Chris Wilder said: "We are sorry to see John go. John is a young premier-pharmacy.com/product-category/allergy/ player and his attitude has been superb.

"He's a competitor and he's a young player learning his trade who wants to do well.

"He wanted to come here and play a part and he's done that and we thank him and Millwall for the last few weeks."

Holloway is still hoping to add another forward to his squad before the weekend.

He knows what this game means to the fans. He will chase everything. I think he will add energy up front. If Morison is fit I would like to see them together up top. For the first time we will see maquis fit & be able to judge him.

I like him and there's no way he can score less than the other strikers unless he starts shooting the wrong way! He's got heart and he's not a midget so I'd rather see him start than McDonald any day.

Score and he challenges Moro for top striker.

His goals to games ratio for MFC is terrible, cos he's not up to the standard of championship football !

One minute we have more strikers than we need now they're all injured at the same time. In all fairness Marquis cannot do any worse than Campbell or Jackson, at least you'll get 100% from the boy. Morison could still make the Charlton game and Ollie could yet still bring in another striker, so its not all bad. Whoever plays now is the time to start scoring because time is running out and 3 points are absolutely vital on Saturday.

@harry2310: Well, there's a lot of commonsense points there. However, I don't recall too many negatives when Marquis was loaned out. The reason for that is ....well, have a guess.
I think it's an absolute disgrace that given the players we've signed we can't pitch two forwards to suggest that we can cuase a crap team like Charlton problems. Is McDonald's head not where it should be still ? Christ, in any other squad he'd have been shown the door by now. Next thing we'll hear is that Hoyte is playing up front on Saturday with Jack Smith. Or worse, Harewood was eager to come and is looking forward to keeping us up.

Great is morison out or are we just short on stewards? ffs i'm not realy digging marquis, more the other more experianced forwards we've got that score goals for everyone else they have played for but as soon as they put our shirt on either their confidence goes or their attitude stinks. F..K EM ALL.

Wenger has come under attack for his training regime which is resulting in a similar injury crisis at Arsenal. Perhaps the new training regime at Millwall is behind the current cop of injuries? Just a thought

@Peckhamlad: The new training regime was introduced to get unfit players fit. Our last fitnesss coach under Lomas was an embarassment. If he was their role model, then no wonder most of them were in the 'yellow' and several, including a certain Mr.Hoyte were in the 'red'.
The true problem is that the board let the managers do what they want because they have absolutely no undersanding of football, no idea how to run a football and no nous as to how to vet incoming 'assistants'. I'm so p***** off tonight you have no idea. Another dire season, some truly awful signings under the last 3 managers and now we've recalled a 21 yr old who wasn't good enough 8 weeks ago. Another teetotal weekend looming up on the horizon.

@timchimes: IMO he's going to play Morison whether he's fit or not. On the assumption that Malone will be fit then...
      Forde
      Dunne Robinson Lowry Malone
      Martin Garvan Upson Martin Woolford
      Morison.
A game we MUST win. Expect the subs bench to be laden with forwards, whoever they may be by Saturday.

        @NICKOLA:

we have to find a way of getting midfielders in more dangerous positions more often - if the strikers are tied up the midfield has to work space better - Charlton will be defensive with the kid poyet in front of the back four - he needs maximum attention from the start - inexperienced , he will crack if we close him down and the crowd get on his case -
the only pace Charlton have is Harriot - stop him and they are slow and predictable

Just a shout but what about Bobby Zamora??? He's the same sort as Morrison, fits into Ollies system, scored in the prem and at Championship level. He could do a job till the end of the season.. Also gotta say give Marquis a chance, yes his scoring record is not great, but then who's is at the club?? I'd rather see him out there with pride in the shirt and working for the team than some of the others that have been up top for us this season.
    Anyway COYL

Leicester should be where we go looking. Chris Wood (forget the past, we need goals) and/or Kevin Phillips. I know Phillips is a short a**e but he is a goal scoring short a**e.

I can remember Teddy Sheringham was not rated as a youngster with the Millwall crowd and look what happened since. I will and many others give John boy Marquis a chance and will give him a loud vocal support that he needs to fire him up. I will support whatever Ian Holloway will do as I want this poor team he's got to win. Any negative people out there please stay away and shut up as your'e so boring and could not do any better!

We are supposed to be Millwall supporters here and that means support the club.

The issues over the standard of strikers that we have now lines with Hollway, in dj and Jackson he has brought in 2 very similar players who have failed to perform or provide back up to Morison as a holder striker.

Marquis may not be everyone's cup of tea but at least he will provide a positive influence up front as a holding striker and heart. There is no doubt that he will give 110% and fight no matter what. We are in a dog fight, pretty football and prima donnas can stay at home.

The lad deserves our support for the fact that you will give his all on Saturday unlike some of the so high stars on big wages that we have taken on and more then likely will jump ship if we go down.

We can ask the players to show fight if we lack it!

The best example Iis my 6 year old step son who has just got into football and is blind in his support for millwall against his friends supporting premier teams. He will not be changed with his faith come what may, time maybe for the older supporters to do the same!
