Millwall boss searching for his own Suarez-Sturridge pairing

IAN Holloway believes a lack of "chemistry and understanding" up front is the reason behind Millwall's goal drought.

The Lions have scored just five goals in Holloway's nine games in charge, a statistic which has left the Millwall boss searching for the "magic formula" in his squad.

Holloway says that his forward players are yet to click together in the same way prolific duo Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge have for Liverpool this season.

But he also feels that the pressure of a relegation battle is causing his strikers to tense up.

"It is hard to play and to relax when things aren't going well, particularly for your expansive and instinctive players," he said.

"Between all of those players, is there really the chemistry that is needed? Is there a Suarez and Sturridge? Is there that kind of link and understanding?

"I'm not sure there is at the minute, and that's what we're working on. Steve Morison and Simeon Jackson played together at Norwich, so there could be something there.

"Our individual attacking players are very good, but as a group things have not worked and I have got to get the magic formula right."

Holloway says Millwall have been doing everything but score in recent weeks.

"I can see stats reading the right way," he added. "The last time we played Brighton they had 65 percent of the possession, and last Saturday they only had 40 percent.

"Unfortunately the only stat that doesn't read any better is the goals column and everyone in the ground knew that we should have scored at least one."

We haven't got a Sturridge or Suarez, Mickey Mouse and Goofy perhaps. IH's utterances are becoming a bit nonsensical.

But you only play one forward up front Ian?? And they are not world class quality like Suarez/Sturridge, they not even championship quality as it stands because they haven't got the skill, composure and accuracy to do what they are paid extremely well to do and that's simply to beat the keeper and put the ball in the back of the net!!!

I've just been watching a DVD in which you appear, one of your quotes about yourself is about you being the village idiot. Everyone thought you said it to get a laugh. But alas I think we can all see this is true.
