Millwall hero makes Socceroos history with brace at Den

TIM Cahill scored twice on his return to The Den to become Australia's all-time leading goalscorer in a thrilling friendly with Ecuador.

Cahill moved to the top of the Socceroos' scoring charts with a first-half brace but his goals were not enough to prevent a 4-3 defeat in front of a 7,133-crowd in SE16.

The former Millwall midfielder had said before the game that scoring for his country in his old back yard would rank as a "special moment" in his career.

Australia raced into a 3-0 lead but Ecuador mounted a stunning fightback in the second half after goalkeeper Mitchell Langerak was sent off.

Cahill was substituted to a standing ovation with the scoreline at 3-2 before two late goals sealed victory for the South Americans against the ten men.

Congratulations Tim, a modern great and a hard worker who has deserved all the success he's had as a pro. Understood what it meant to be Wall and can only dream of you returning back to The Den in our shirt. One Timmy Cahill!

@block 28: Totally agree block 28. If he wants to join us until season end sign him. The extra through the turnstiles would fund it.Its a no brainer, he would be top scorer by seasons end. He wouldn't need to settle in. Sign him and have him ready for anoraks game. What a day and atmosphere that would be. Come on Ollie you cant lose.

Well Mr H, a Millwall legend shows how it should be done, give the lads a DVD of the game and who knows we may find the back of the net without the aide of a sat nav. 🙂
